Sorry to hear about your Z Mat.

Had to replace my engine last month due to a big end failure!

Not that I am a mechanic but if the chaps on the forum are to assist you they might need to know more details like,

is it still running, is the knocking sound worse on power or there all the time, is it on tick over ect.

I know its not easy but I think thats the thing they will want to know lol! Dont run engine and cause more problems though!

Just a little chilled now, but still Pi55ed off, i replaced all the shells in the big ends, so i just cant see what the problem is, unless the shells nissan sold me were faulty? i just cant understand it only done 3000km on it! sorry back to what i meant to say.....

Right teh knocking is like a the knock that the engine would make if the piston was hitting the head, and it sounds like its comeing from the O/S of the engine (Drivers side). Any ideas what it could be, already started to strip the car to remove the engien and drop the sump again to see whats what!

Right thats it, thinking of selling her once shes fixed, what do you lot think?

Yeah do it mate then buy mine:slap:

Marc

Sorry to hear that Mat,after all the time and effort you put into it:( hope it's not too serious.

I very much doubt the shells you fitted were faulty Mat.

Why did you change them?

I ask because I could have replaced my shells & hope for a quick fix. But if the problem is say oil pump you are still heading for disaster!

I know you can change the shells without taking the engine out & the cost is a few hundred pounds. To take the engine out you are looking at a considerable cost!!

Marc:cry:

Oh jeezz, sorry to hear that mate, I remember reading about all the hassle you went through last time to sort it. You must be gutted. Maybe you'd be better just buying a known good engine from AndyZ or someone else, it'd probably only cost you £300-£400.

I remember the engine in my 200SX making a knocking noise and I never got to the bottom of it. Checked the pistons, conrods, big ends, oil pump, everything but didn't find anything wrong. I gave up in the end and bought another engine.

Is it a loud knock?

very loud knock, and you can almost feel it through the car! been speaking to andy duff and gona drop the sump and see whats what!

Its fooked!!!

anyone for new light weight shells??

oh shit 1.jpg

It take it that's a big end shell. How could it have gone in such a short time, 3000K is nothing. The big end journal must be knackered, is it the same conrod that went last time?

Hi Matthew,

Been a while since we spoke.

Cant believe this has happened.

What is the actual problem then, have you identified the cause?

Feel really sorry for you! It may be hard work, but think about the amount of money you are saving by doing it yourself! ALOT!

yep thats a bigend shell!!!! well whats left of it! gonna check the crank tomorrow to see whats the damage, and no its not the one that went last time. and i think i'[ve found the problem no oil!!! the feed pipe had somehow got blocked!

What a baitch!

Good luck with the rebuild Matthew, what was blocking the pipe?+
