This seems to be a talking point at the moment, everyone seems to have there own ideas to which turbos are the best so what are??

There is a reason why i ask because i need to find out what garrett turbos are the best for the zed ie for BHP.

I'm not promising anything but i might have sorted a deal out with garretts themselves to buy turbos off them cheap but i need exact model numbers etc for the zed because a a t25 or 27 comes in about 15 different models so i need more details and hopefully i can save a few people some money and of course get myself some dirty great big tubs:rofl:

hi mike ,

isnt this the $40,000 question what turbo to buy.

this is not an easy question to answer because it all depends on what you want from your zed. Lets face it - with standard cam and standard pistons there are only a limited amount of choices which make sense. As soon as you start changing the profile of your engine there is an almost limitless possibility of options.

Now i've opted to to go for a smaller roller bearing T28 with a T25 compressor wheel - why? because of very quick spool up. I'm not chasing the magical bhp but i want a car that is quick of line and quick to drive every day. I've been advised by SE nissan that this is the wrong choice in their opinion - they would recommend a full roller bearing T28 - slower to spool up but provides more oomph when it does.

I was hoping to put my zed against Maccas (SE T28's) in the rolling road day but if the compression figures are to be believed on my engine it wont be a fair contest.

Very few people have had the fortune or money to be able to have run many different sorts of turbos so it is difficult to make an comparative choice.

Now my advice is - sort out what you want from the zed - and make the best guess that you can. Failing that if you are changing the profile of your engine give your engine specs to a turbo manufacturer such as turbo dynamics with a description of what you want to achieve and ask their advice. There are so many variations out there that you can have an almost limitless choice

Regards,

alex

as Alex said all depends what you want.. big bhp usually means more lag, but you can then change your's cams etc to make better use of that.

Or go for a sensible size that'll suit your mods and spool up the quickest

Well the thing is ive got plenty of bhp as it is but...and here's the but if i did go down the route of massive bhp..which i will what tubs would you have?

If i'm going to get the turbos very very cheap i might as well get the best ones i can. To garretts its just another turbo to us its the difference of being able to run 450 bhp and 650 bhp!!

I can do all the internals on the engine and run my hybrids upto 25 psi but after the forged pistons etc have gone on what tubs would you then bolt on.

Got to keep up with macca some way :D

If we are talking uprated turbos with driveability I would choose!

1. Pe1420

2. Garrett GT25, dunno what exact fitments for the Zed BTW!

If we are talking big bhp with more lag Greddy TD05-18G

i've heard that the HKS T-51R can run at 800 bhp+ on a single unit? If this is true and you want big power, surely the way to go is one or even two of these and an anti-lag system? I even heard that there is a nitrous oxide system for this type of application which only gives a boost before the turbo/s wind up, then fazes out as they faze in. Sounds good to me, if a bit expensive. The turbo alone is in the region of £3600 if i have converted it from dollars properly.

Its just my personal opinion but i think the greddy TD05-16G is a good turbo - now if its lag you want how about the TD06-20G that is over twice the cfm of the stock TB22's - what a monster

Turbos turbos turbos doing my fookin head in ATM:confused:

PE 1420= no thanks!

Turbo Dynamics=No thanks!

SE own T28 RB hybrid maybe?

Looks like I am going with the Greddy TD05 18G so far:rolleyes:

Don't blame yer

Turbo Dynamics=No thanks!

Bloody quick on spool up and hold the power, fact !

SE own T28 RB hybrid maybe?

Don't forget your an Auto, think about it, why the difference in stock ones ?

If yer got that cash, get your own made from TD or TT any size you want that fits, just quote yer power you want and how quick to get there and sorted, made to fit and a one off,

Think Xmas has come early for you ;)

smithy

It all depends what you are after really!

In terms of value for money, the PE1420 is about the best, for £2K you can get 500BHP turbos. I haven't seen any turbos that can match the price and BHP with that level of lag!

If you are after 600+ BHP then these are not the ones!

I'm torn between PE1420's and JWT535BB's at the moment. Gotta get the Greg Dupree split down-pipes too

LOL and WTF is wrong with the PE1420s? Makes me laugh how many myths there are out there.....
