Head removal

Hi guys this is my first post on here! Im just in the process of removing my heads to do the head gaskets, ive removed all the top sections and will be removing the crank pulley and timing belt etc tomorrow. one thing im wondering though is do i remove the manifolds from the head or do i remove the turbo from the manifold?? ive read a few tips and looked at the online manual but it doesnt even mention the manifolds/turbos!

please help somebody!

P.S is there any other Z owners in west sussex?

cheers for any help in advance:)

ill see what i can do;) or cant as this case may be!

dont worry about it too much, mate. its just a very big very difficult meccano set. it will go right sooner or later. and if you get stuck there will always be someone on here to guide you out of it. like i said...easy:D

ive alread enlisted mtl to help me out! good man!:D needing a hoist to lift the head/manifold and turbos...im a bit of a weakling:rolleyes: ive got an awwwwwwwwful feeling the heater matrix has gone as theres some rusty water stains near the pedals:cry: looks like its gonna be a collllllllllllllllllllld winter!

if you are getting the heads off, fix it while the car is in bits. it will most likely be much easier than with it all together. you may even be able to get to the hoses!!!!!

im not sure if its gone for sure so ill have to wait and see, i bought the car as a non runner so i wont know til it runs! dancin nana!:P

yeah but didnt you say it was a none runner because of a head gasket? if so, this may have been the cause, with the water level getting too low. this leads to overheating and warpage. so if there is coolant in the footwell, check your heads and matrix or you may be doing this job just to do it again:eek:

this is not good, because you will shout and curse a lot and either sell the car off cheap, get another engine or have to do it again and if the matrix has gone, you are gonna have to do it sooner rather than later if you value your engine. The other way around it is to bypass the matrix altogether but like you said, its getting cold and that would mean no heater/demister.

I though of that possiblity too and if it does leak then ill bypass it til i get round to replacing the heater matrix. I wont be driving too much so ill keep an eye on the heat and see how it goes. ill not run it into the ground just yet;)

always best to be careful, though. at least get the heads checked/skimmed. if it was me, i'd be thinking im worknig on this car and i dont really like the job...do i want to do it all again?

just remember if it all goes pear shaped you'll be :slap: ing yourself.:D

aye ill get the heads checked over etc, next time i do this ill hopefully have a driveway!;) then i can lift the engine out etc. just want the bugger running now!

you doing this in the street?!!!!! OMFG!

sorry i took so long. i got booted and took the oppourtunity to take my sister to the youth club. I cant believe you are doing this in the street.:p

crazy but cool:dance: :D

haha I got a little lay by thing i do it in, not too bad just cant leave my legs sticking out too far onto the road;) I would have taken the engine out had I had the room but its not a good option atm!

o:dance: h:dance: y:dance: e:dance: s:dance: :hyper: you have to be to start a job like that in the first place!

well at least you are happy. just watch your legs under those cars. lol never knew mechanics was such a dangerous hobby.

aye now you know! I might just be the first Z driver with no legs:rofl: well at least its auto:dance:

no this is the first, previous cars were -R5GTT, Escort RST, another GTT then a mazda 323 turbo and now this...I do like turbos;)

i had an R5 GTT. god did i spend money on that car! 4 tubs, 2 heads, 6 pistons, 2 cranks and when the block cracked i gave up.

got it up to 165bhp, though:D

i bought my second one again with a bad engine, so i got a spare engine and rebuilt it to top spec, I did eeeeeeeeverything, L/B low comp, wire rings, T25 job lot! last thing i bought was a front mount for £600! I sold it about 2 weeks later cus i got bored;) had the smooth 323 for about 6 months then got bored again. hence this small challenge i set myself!:slap:
