Anyone ever had their steering rack overhauled. Mine has lift in one side where the track rod end 'rod' comes out the rack as though the ball end is worn.

That part can be replaced quite easily with the rack still on the car, Nissan part is around the £45 mark. Tracking check required after.

I take it this is a common thing then and for once manufacturers actually supply a replacement part instead of the full rack being required.

Jeff what kind of job is it.

quite a few manufacturers actually supply the track rod as a seperate part, not done one on a zed, but generally once the boots off, they just unscrew. :)

Its not the track rod end......where the rod for the track rod meets the rack..i have lift inside the rack...when i press my brakes on quite hard and rock the steering...the rod coming out the rack on the drivers side lifts up and down...not at the track rod end but actually inside the rack.

John, as I said Nissan supply this part and it comes complet with a new knuckle joint which is located right at the point where the rod joins the rack, yes it is common and the same knuckle arm assembly is used on th rear for the hicas arms.

Easier on the front than the rear to be honest, allow about 35 minutes per side, measure the length of the original arm before taking the rod end off and when re-assembling with the new part set it to this same measurement, that is a good base setting for the tracking, have it checked asap after then to prevent tyre wear.

John - like I said, that is the track ROD, not the track rod END!! ;)

look here, they refer to it as a tie rod in the manual, but it shows how its assembled.
