Ok, I'm looking to chip my car. I currently have an induction kit and larger Trust Intercoolers, no exhaust yet, and am currently running standard boost. I've looked around and the JWT chip seems a safe bet to go for.

Can I run a JWT chip with my current mods (in a prelude to changing the exhaust and upping the boost) or am I better changing the exhaust first and Chipping and increasing the boost together at a later date?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Mike,

Yes, no problem running a JWT chip with your current set up. I am running this configuration at the moment as well.

You'll need to get your ECU professionally socketed before you can fit the chip and also get some boost jets installed.

One word of advise - check with your insurance company what this mod will do to your premium as non disclosure may invalidate your policy at the time of a claim. Seen this go wrong once to often now.

Regards,

Hi Mike,

A lot have gone for the SE chip rather than the JWT. The SE one uses modified JWT code I believe. JWT is programmed for US fuel which is a lower octane and hence more prone to detonation - I guess JWT would be a better choice if safety was your priority.

I was running an SE chip with standard exhaust for about a year with no probs.

In theory your car should perform less well with a chip and no boost upgrade as the timing maps are retarded to allow for higher boost without detonation - the stock timing maps are aparrently pretty severe/advanced.

Out of interest, I have Ben's ECU **complete** (not just chip) with Veilside chip - I ran this for a while - very agressive, particularly with fuelling, set up for Jap fuel really but ran very well for me!! A bit of octane booster might make it a bit safer. Just putting it on the for sale forum for £150.

Cheers!

To the best of my knowledge the SE chip uses modified Nissan code, not JWT (which is also modified Nissan code of course).

Cheers for the advice, I like the word 'safety' so the JWT looks to be one of the best options.

The Veilside options sounds good but a think my 100K turbo's will last about 10mins with that setup.

It would be a very fun 10mins though :D
