Ideas are being banded about at the moment but hows this for another one?

Anybody who makes a major contribution to the site (writes an FAQ, does some major work on the site etc) gets either 1/2 year or full year subscription FOC?

This sounds like I'm trying to play the ball in my own court but thats certainly not the case. I'm trying to move this place forward before we lose something important - like its members. I think if someone is prepared to put in a lot of their own personal time to help the members of this site out, they should be rewarded.

Hows about it guys? It will also encourage people to put something into the place.

CheerZ,

Andy

we can help ourselves by when we have a problem and we fix it, post that we have fixed it and what you did to fix it.

While searching the forum when I have a problem I find a few posts regarding the same thing and a few suggestions but no one hardly posts the solution which worked.

Or the FAQ maintainer could just write summary posts - that would do it a lot of the time. The maintainer would be the moderator of the read-only forum you suggest, and s/he would post into it when a discussion in the main boards drew to a natural conclusion. (Or if there is no conclusion, they'd summarise the main points - I was thinking about an article on "auto vs manual" on the way home which would need to state both sides of the argument.)

To make it more formal and professional would be fantastic but I was unable to commit that much time, not to mention that my web design skills are, um, limited to say the least.

Wasn't expecting more time from you in that respect; others are volunteering (inc. me).

I'd also expect others will write summaries / articles from time to time so me and Andy would act as editors if you will, as well as authors.

I could do the pcv valves one 'cause the one on Andy's site is for left hand drive.

Think this is a blinding idea, if it enables the FAQ and taps Andy's obvious knowledge

I might even reconsider my subscription if this place starts moving in the right direction and shows signs of recoving for the gutter that it's been in for the past few months.

Thank's Tim:( I have put so much hard work in the traders section to offer members club discounts.

I say we give Macca a years free membership for all the hard work he's put in with the traders :D

Having looked around other 300 sites around the world, there was one idea which stuck out for getting an FAQ section up and running. Its dead simple really. You create an FAQ forum with full access rights for the first 30 days, where members get a chance to populate with their own ideas/work etc. After 30 days, the admin is taken over and the forum is reduced to read only rights. Anything irrelevant is simply deleted. Once there's some good info in there, it is whittled down to the bear essentials...

One point that was brought up above was the difference between lhd and rhd with certain jobs. Roy has offered to do the write up on the PCV valve replacement for a rhd car - think this would be a first.

We could really get into this but it will take work from everyone not just a few. Another thing that could be included is a product review section? This doesn't have to have a user report really, just a copmparison of features and how the features affect the product...

Over to you again :)

CheerZ,

Andy

Thought you were leaving?

LOL and I thought we'd called it quits

STOP PRESS: Trader tries to push away 300zx.co.uk member :p

Steady on I read a whole load of threads last time I was on about you not been happy and now I read some good suggestions coming through thats all.

He started it! :D

Now that was too easy Andy, I have come to expect better from you.........all in fun that`s official

:D :D :D

Now, now children, play nicely!

I reckon we could get quite alot of submitions to this. People are passionate and willing to help.

A section just needs to be set up now that we can submit to. I for one, would be quite proud to see my write up in there somewhere.

Wouldn't it be terrible if people could learn how to fix their properly cars themselves without having to pay for someone else to have a stab at it.

Based on what Andy has already suggested and others have added to, it is looking more like some workable idea`s are coming through, respect to anyone who helps.

Jeff

a tech article could be composed on one thread - people add their own experience/knowledge.

If Roy doesn't have pictures, I can take some when I finally get around to replacing mine, which should be pretty soon now.

Sounds good, I can a do a technical article on how the Supra is far superior to the 300:rofl:

some more for you Roy:

1) How to attach a chestwig

2) Why Supra owners have small d**ks

3) Choosing a skirt

Can we stop talking about fookin supras and get back on topic here? I think this site is desperate for some new ideas so we need to push push push...

Then again..... its up to you lot....

I thought Mark (Topless) was going to put forward all the ideas discussed in various threads to the Gods so us minions would get a hearing ....

Don't tell me apathy is here so fast ..

In fact .. scratch apathy ..... ostrich and sand spring to mind.

Right, ok I think this thread has pretty much run its course. Can we now have some input/comment from the mods/admin as to how easily this can be implemented, if at all and how quickly it can be done? Lets get this site back on its feet so we keep the traders and new members we've tried so hard to recruit over the past few months. Should pick out the real enthusiasts of the site from the rest eh ;)
