Occasionally I get the following things happening which I want to fix ;)

1. HICAS light on

2. ABS light on

3. Heavy steering

4. Speedo either drops to 0kph or 180+mph.

Then later in the journey everything will sort itself out.

The speed sensor was changed (according to service history) last year, but these symptoms point to a fault with it dont they?

The problem happens in wet near 100% and occasionally in the dry too (this morning).

I've read that the SS is located on the underside of the gearbox - can I access this from underneath using axle stands? I should check the wiring and connections I suppose?

Cheers folks

Pete

Jeff changed mine, he jacked up the Z and fiddled for a few minutes and come from under the Z with a very nasty looking Speed Sensor, fitted another and I was on my way!!

Had same problems as you, occasional heavy steering, HICAS light for no reason and the autobox just didn't feel right......

Then it all went pear shaped on way to Billing 2002 as the Autobox decided it wasn't well and died......

Hopefully yours is just the speed sensor and nothing else.

Matty.

Indeed it sounds 99% like its your speed sensor, will cost you less than £100 to get a new one fitted, but first check all the wires on the bottom are ok, as they get VERY close to the exhaust and sometimes melt and or break.

Pic below of speed sensor location.

Its not the speed sensor Pete, its a knackerd Speedo cluster by the sounds, change it for a UK one,AndyZ may have one,;)

Cheers Berks! Big help mate :)

I'm sure it must be dodgy wiring cos the SS is pretty new, I'll check it out at the w/e

Argh no I dont want options lol ;)

Would that cause the HICAS etc light to come on and the loss of Power steeering?

Cheers

Pete

I thought it was a case of if your steering's effected then it's the sensor and nothing to do with the cluster???

mmmmmm, just a bit pissed off lads as i cant drive me Z till its sorted,i have got withdrawl syptoms, its driving me nuts:mad: as for speedo ,if its got a intermitant fault like not working properly/not working at all/intermitant crap readings then car will go into a form of safety mode, hicas light goes ape, steering becomes heavy etc etc, same things can happen when speed sensor goes, but seen as it had a new one last summer i doubt if it will be this,:D ;)
