Hi peeps, just want to know if i'm getting the right fuel consumption out of this guzzler, mainly driving on roads of a 50-60 mph speed limit but I go on how many miles I get to tenner, it seems im only getting 50 miles.........is this normal?

 

Car is 300ZX Fairlady 2+2 TT Auto import.

Working on that £10 of petrol being pump priced at 79.9ppl you are doing 18.18 miles per gallon, thats pretty average to be honest, if you ease up on her a bit you may well find you can get it into the twenties!

FFS a tenner used to get me 30 miles driving locally to work, now my work has moved I am at 30 miles now with still quarter tank so I think I am into the 20's to the gallon......wooohoooo...

I was really shocked.

...are your air filters clogged. If they are, they contribute to the poor fuel consumption. On new imports they are often solid.

Belive it or not. I filled up the car reset the clock, drove to Scotland where I filled up again and divided the miles by the litres I just put in and then times the answer by 4.54 and I got 32.7mpg.

 

I did drive at 50-60 mph for 90% of the way.

 

I did 320 miles and the needle wasnt even touching the E.

Stu, im not sure of the pump prive at the time you did this, but basing your fill up on being £50 at a pump price of 79.9ppl your mpg for that 320 mile journey is 23.22

To find mpg you take your price, divide it by your pump price, then divide it by 4.54 to get your fill up in gallons, you then take your miles covered and divide it by the amount of galons.

 

eg.

 

5000 (cos its in pence) div by 79.9 = 62.57litres

 

62.57 div by 4.54 = 13.78 gallons

 

320 miles div by 13.78 gals = 23.22 mpg

I said nothing about the amount of petrol I put in, I cant remember how much I did put in 2 months later. I thought I was going to get 400miles to a tank at one stage as, I got 200 miles to what the gauge said was half a tank, and then it just plumitted ;)

 

Nelson, it was also Optimax which according to your company is meant to give me a little more MPG. Or is your company lieing ;)

Sorry my mis understanding, by reading the above i assumed that from a full tank to empty would be about the £50 mark.

Yep, I did that today.

 

On my jaunts to the NW and back I can get 200m when the needle is pointing at the halfway mark and that is cruising at a steady 60-90 depending upon what the M6/A14/M11 permits. However, that is pretty exceptional and my more normal figure is straining to get 150 at the same point. This equates to about 21 normally, or less if it's all slow stuff.
