Idle question / TPS

What should the idle speed of a UK spec TT auto be?

I cleaned the throttle bodies a couple of weeks ago, then disconnected the ecu for over 1/2 hour to reset it, now the idle speed has risen to 1000rpm in neutral and about 950rpm in drive.

I have driven about 1500 miles since the clean-out, mixing motorway and B road thrashing on hols in the Yorkshire Moors yet it still hasn't settled down.

I've tried wiggling the TPS connector but it does nothing.

Also, could the TPS be faulty as the car sometimes comes close to stalling when braking hard, say, at a roundabout?? The revs also drop temporarily to 500 upon selecting reverse??

Any suggestions please:confused:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

hi mate, I did my bodies no so long ago and you have to adjust the idle to 750 on a tt, unplug the yellow ecu conector at the back of the engine and then adjust the idle screw located near the battery down to 700 then when you plug the yellow conector back in the revs will raise by 50. the conector is right at the back on the right near the idle screw. the engine stalling at braking is the 2 pcvs I belive, i had the same problem, changed them and hey presto.....

hope this is of any help mate

I had the same problem. Avoid adjusting the idle. What you need to do is clean the idle valve by removing the pipe and spraying in a good dose of carb cleaner. What happens is that the gunk fro the throttle bodies ends up by the idle valve assembly unit so after a clean the idle should settle down.

I did this and it worked. I can't remember the location of the post but it was within the last fortnight, look under idle or throttle bodies.

Geoff.
