Hi guys, need to call upon your knowlege again please.

I am going to replace the super chip ecu soon with a JWT, what boost can I safely run with the JWT chip? The car is standard apart from the super chip and air filter. Also, I have noticed that some people using a SE chip, is this better than JWT? What are the differances? Thanks.

i think it also runs a little leaner for the same reason.

Hi Homebrew!

ย

I myself run a JWT chip (with boost jets set for 12psi) as well as a JWT induction kit. Having been involved in chipping various Zeds over the past two years I can not stress enough that the car must be running well before you start upping boost. So many guys I have refused to upgrade their boost by means of a chip because their car had existing problems. When you up the boost things which are already not functioning properly will most definitely go kaput and cost you a lot of money. I just wanted to get this in before answering your original question.

You say you have a JWT chip, presumably you also have boost jets and an intake (what type have you got). Assuming your car is running fine and you have no fueling, cooling, or ignition problems, you can safely run upto 12psi (i.e., 0.8bar) of boost on stock engine internals. I would not suggest going any higher than that until you are absolutely convinced that your turbos are in perfect working order and again, you have no other running problems. The air/fuel maps in the JWT chips are good for anything upto 16psi. Above that you'll need to make some further modifications to your injectors, fueling, air intake, exhaust, etc.

ย

Furthermore, inform your insurance company of any modifications you have made which affect the bhp output of the car. If you don't you may invalidate your policy. An acquaintance of mine recently wrote off his TVR Tuscan S in an accident, he didn't inform his insurance company that he made certain modifications and now the insurance company will not pay him. He is not a happy bunny.

Apologies for part of this sounding like a lecture but I have seen too many Zeds with blown turbos, engines and worse.

Thanks for the replys. Danny, the chip thats in it now is badged "Super chips" it was in the car when I bought it along with two bleed valves on the turbos. I've been told that this chip is no good, so want to replace it with a jwt or se. The turbos seem fine at the moment, if I floor it there's no visable smoke that I can see in the rear mirror. The engine starts no problem and no smoke from cold or hot. The only thing that has buged me is that every so often within the first 5 mins of driving, somtimes there is quite a lot of blue smoke from both exhausts. This soon clears though, and does not happen again.

I have been playing with the bleed valves and getting unreal acceleration, but also det, so i'm slowly turning them down until the det goes.

You ought to get yourself an accurate boost gauge before you fiddle with increasing the boost - just to be safe.

I was poking around the std ECU maps the other night and my calculations indicate that the standard maps support up to 13psi boost, after that I think it kind of makes it up as it goes along ....
