I was going to change the auto transmission fluid this weekend. I was wondering if anyone knows if the Jap (mine) pan gasket is the same as the UK gasket ? (In case I get blank looks from the local Nissan dealer) Is there anything else I should buy while Im there ?

Thanks

John

John, the best way to do this is under pressure as manually draining will leave quite a bit still in the torque converter. You can repeat the process a few times but nothing beats it being drained under line pressure.

Think there's a write up on Andy's site.

Sorry, can't help you with the gasket question.

Found the write up, it may help you a bit.

Hi John, may be able to dig out a receipt with the Jap pan gasket number on it - will have to wait 'til this evening though. LMK if you need this...

You should also get the set of bolts for securing it - think they were under a tenner - I have a new set somewhere if you want 'em. They have some locking compound on them I think - hence new set needed when replacing pan.

As James says, replacing fluid under pressure is the best way to do it - a good specialist will be able to pump clean fluid through the whole box and convertor until it clears up - costs a bit as an extra few litres of fluid will be used...

Cheers!

Thanks everyone,

Can I re-use the existing pan bolts ?

I went to the local Nissan dealer to get the pan gasket. He had to order one, he said they were about £20 or £25 ........that seems like a lot, what have any of you paid for one ?

John

I'm sure you can reuse the existing bolts, Nissan reckon they should be replaced though (not expensive) - my pan was taken off, box pronounced DOA and pan was replaced for me to drive home (in second gear all the way)

I paid over £20 for the pan gasket - what a rip off!
