Today after booting down a M road. I noticed when I had stopped the car, that I could smell quite a heavy smell of Oil. Is this quite common after giving it a good boot?.

The car does not appear to be eating oil and no obvious signs of oil leakage!....

Cheers.

Turbos I expect, you need to let them cool down

in the last mile or so.

Never smelt it myself but then I never cane the turbos:rolleyes:   ;)

um, well not without letting them cool down again

I had been driving slow for a good couple of miles. I will have to keep a check on it.

Also, I have a Turbo Timer. But is there any difference to driving the last couple of miles slow or alternatively using the turbo timer when stationary. I just cant see the point in Timers?.

It's just easy to 'forget' to take it easy!

Turbo timer's aren;t expensive and could save £££'s in the long run. I always take the belt and braces approach - take it easy (ish) for the last few miles, then let the turbo timer do its work!

but after you have stopped and sat idleing your temp goes up by 5-10 degrees therefore your oil temp goes up aswell

obviously this is different if you have been hammering it before you come to a stop

Have you got too much oil in? My engine smells of oil when I had too much in

I change my oil every 8 weeks (which for me means around 300 miles max) and if I leave it much longer, I get very much the same response.....my oil stinks. To add to this, I don`t use the turbos much (30 year old grandad you see).

When was the last time your lube was changed? Maybe its just down to this. My Zed don`t use or leak a drop but it is very hard on its oil.

Like my Zed, yours may have a very small oil leak from the rocker cover at the back of the engine. Mine has a tiny leak that drips oil onto the hot manifold during "spirited" motoring, hence producing an oily smell when I exit the car. Apparently it is a real PITA to rectify the problem as the upper plenum has to come off.

HTH.

Regards,

Got exactly the same problem but as turbo timer runs down i can actually see a misty oily cloud coming from the rear of the engine.

Why do all my posts have a black spot next to them?

aaaaaah!!!! The Black Spot!

!!!!! 300 miles, jeez, i thought i was fanatical changing it every 3000 miles!!!

seriously tho, modern oils should be capable of exceeding that by far, have you changed your PCV's & breathers? it could be contamination in the oil from the breather system if its not venting correctly.

Yep my thoughts exactly - for SOME reason the oil is getting contaminated - sort this out or you'll be having a bottom end rebuild ;) It's prolly cheaper for the breather system parts than 2 oil changes so.... go figure :D

I have changed neither. Are the 'breathers' the PCV hoses?....

Cheers

Isnt that breather hose at the rear (11826-B) the one thats a right t##t to do??

I pretend to work, they pretend to pay me!

Rand Nissan and asked them about PCV's and they said "What do they do and where do they go?". And I thought they were meant to be helping me!.

Anyway on the above link, are the numbers by the parts the actual part no. ?, Nissan seem to think not.

Cheers.

No they're not. Courtesy invent the second half of the part number so you can't look up on their site and then go and buy elsewhere!

Either buy off MJP in the Trader's forum or have a play on http://www.300zx.lv/catalog/?m=Z32

Gio,

That catalogue is amazing, is the pricing in US dollars?? and can we buy off it?? has anyone tried?

Regards,

Paul

It's a cool piece of software isn't it? God knows how they do it. The shopping cart is handled by http://www.conceptzperformance.com and I think a few people have talked to them and ordered parts.

Me - I cheat and look up the parts then ask Mike!

Also it is a little out of date in some respects and a few sections are missing. But it is a hell of a lot better than nothing :D
