Well the other week I posted about the hesitation and lack of smoothness in the running of the car. Since having the car chipped and the exhausts done it's probably more noticable. Having done searches on the forum it seems to point to the coil pack connectors. I have looked at them before and some of the little clips are broken. Will broken clips cause the problem of not getting enough connection?

However, originally I also had the usual problem of the fluctuating temp guage caused by the TPS. I disconnected it cleaned it and it is fine. But last Sunday it played up again so I wiggled the TPS and then it was fine. If there is a fault with the TPS could this be causing the whole hesitation problem and has nothing to do with the coil pack connectors?

Comments please.

Just the action of un plugging the tps connector and re fitting it again helps clean up the connections. They get oxide on them and a bad connection. If you had the jerking temp guage needle its the same thing but on the connection for the small temp sender. Also take off and re fit the big ecu temp sender.

Of course take appropriate care doing this as the wiring and coonnectiors are brittle at the age these cars are at.

If my idle rpm is above 1000rpm hot I know that opening the bonnet and giving the wiring at the tps a wiggle always settles the tickover back down to 700 where it was set. Do it with the engine running to locate the problem. Take care!

Fingers dropped in the fan will be seriously shortened or your nail biting habit will be permanently cured!

Coil pack connectors will only give an occasional misfire.

Hesitation is caused either by O2 sensors, Temp Sensor, TPS and the likes.

Have you done an ECU diag ?

What code you getting ?

I dont have a Conzult to do a diagnosis. But no red light is showing ie the fault isn't registering.

Geoff.

How much will a new temp sensor connector cost? And where's the best place to get one?

Geoff.

Hello Geoff,

If you need use of a Conzult, you could always pop down to mine if you like :)

Vijay

Thanks Vijay. However today after further discussions I've ordered a new temp sender unit as that could be the problem.

But as usual I hit a problem looking at the connector the wire broke and the connector fell to the bottom of the engine tray - the place where everything goes. So now I need a connector - so I've got a new post! But if all fails after this job then your conzult will be useful.

Geoff,

Where do you get the hesitation ?.

When cold and when warm ?

Between what rev range ?

When you say hesitate can you describe it ?

Stuart, it's right across the range, although when accelerating hard it really shows up. I've ordered a new temp sender as I think it's that which is causing the problem as it did have the fluctuating needle stuff in the very beginning which I rectified. I've ordered a new sender but I need a new connector as when I fiddled around this evening it came away and fell down the big Nissan black hole where all fallen parts go! The wire connection it seems couldn't have been that good.

Any idea where I can get the connector?

Geoff.

you can get one from mjpauto, courtesyparts or nissanuk.

But to make sure that is definately your problem, I would as paul says crimp two spade connectors to the wires and put these back in place.

If it was a connection problem then this would show up on the ECU diag.

When did you lat clean your throttle bodies ?

Well I got the new temp sensor (posted also to the other post on the connector problem) I've used a standard insulated spade connector and now the car seems to be running absolutely fine. So I hope I've solved the problem.

Geoff.
