Looks like a new 'toy' might be on the way :D

So, does anyone know of any good TVR Forums/sites?

Thanks

Tim

just type tvr into ask jeeves and you'll get quite a few sites. try tvrcc.com, thats an owners club i think.

if you get a cerbera then you've gotta let me ride in it one day;) thats the one ive got my eye on when i leave uni (and save for about a decade!:D )

Is this toy replacing the Zed? :(

Dave,

You had a Chimeara didn't you?

What engine size, year, etc?

Was it a pile of kak and are the reliability issues true?

I'm split between a Chimeara and Cerbera at the moment, I've seen a glorious silver Cerbera!!!

Any comments appreciated.

Tim

Tim my dad has a Chimera 4.0 and has not had one problem with it well apart from repeatedly loosing the front lip spoiler on speed humps hehe Unless you want the speed 6 engine in the Cebra then i believe the engine options are the same between the two models so main decisions would be do you want the speed 6 which is TVR's own engine if so then Cebra is your answer only other big factor is if you wanna take the roof off if you do then Cebra is out the window left with Chimera unless you still want speed 6 engine and have the wedge for the tuscan. Personally i love the looks and interior of the Cebra by far the outstanding model of the range IMO Oh and the sound drible drible!!

Glyn

I must admit that I love the interior on the Cerbera, I guess it's a love it - hate it, kind of thing, but for me it is fantastic!!

Anyway, I've got the Zed for when the sun shines :D

Yeah i know fun game to play when your showing it off dont tell anyone how to get out and then shut them in hehehehe anyway all the best mate......

How ya gonna decide what to drive??

Glyn

Its got to be a Cerbera Tim.......looks alot meaner. I know you know that is the one to get. ;)

imo, the cerbera is one of the meanest, best looking cars around. and brittish to boot. if i had the option i'd be extremely tempted!!!

Tim,

Yes, I had a 4.0 Chimaera. It was a '96 or '97 I think. It didn't have a single reliability problem in the 14 months or so I owned it. I test drove a lot of them and there was a massive difference in the quality of them. With no exception, the quality of the car was the same as the quality of the service history.

I'd buy another TVR (if can ever afford to) but I wouldn't even look at one which didn't have a full TVR history, with receipts. And I'd ring the garages to confirm. Costs are astronomic but the car comes back from every service feeling new again. This is partly a feature of the quality of the servicing but also a feature of the fact that the cars MUST be maintained regularly because they deteriorate.

I had a number if niggly things (central locking motor loose, indicator stopped working, that kind of thing) but they were all very easy to fix.

If you get one which doesn't have a solid roof, you have to have a cover or keep it in a garage.

The Cerbera is in a league above the Chimaera in both performance and complexity. The V8s are completely different with the Chimaera based on the old Buick and then Rover V8 which has been around for 40 odd years in it's current form. The Cerbera has TVRs own V8 and the Cerbera was the test bed for the engine. Awesomely powerful and torquey but the reliability comparison is exactly what you'd expect comparing a 40 year old design and a brand new one.

As a driving experience all the modern TVRs are unparalleled in my opinion (by modern I mean Chimaera / Griffith onwards).

I'm now feeling sad as the memories come flooding back ...

Dave

If you can afford 22k over 2 years on keeping it running - buy a Cerbera. That's how much it cost my flat mate who sold his last week.

If you can't afford that, or don't like the idea of pouring so much hard earned into a car don't get a Cerb as you will fall out of love with it as fast as you fell in love with it. I spent 8.5k in a year on mine - it was 2 years old and I could see big bills in the future.

A 2nd hand Cerbera is an awful lot of car for the money - unfortunately, the older it gets the more it costs to run.

My opinion - buy a Tamora (best built of modern TVR's) or a Griffith 500 (or pre cat original 4.2) as it's racier than a Chimera and better round a track. I've heard worrying tales of reliabilty over Tuscans.

Not dissing the Cerbera though - as a car I love them. I just didn't love paying to keep one going.

Chris

Thanks for that Chris,

What the hell fell off for the bill to be #22K??

I'm looking at spending less than that to buy the car in the first place.

And what about yours #8.5K in how long on yours?
