I think my oil of choice would be Mobil 1 15/50 (or was it 15/40 I forget).. Or Castrol RS 20/40, although possibly a little thick when cold (might lead to overly high oil pressure)..

FYI, I run Mobil1 0w40 (fully synth) in my current NA car, and Mobil1 15w50 (i think also fully synth) in my current Turbo car..

Az

Am running MagnaTec 10/40 sythetic.

no problems so far and more importantly no noise!!

Runs well hot or cold, but takes it's time warming up.

Mobil 1 motorsport is 15-50 thats what I am using. Next its getting mobil 1 5-50 cos I bought some in France for £19 instead of £33 like it costs at Halfords over here.

Rip off Britain again frown.gif

I would try the Valvoline, I know lads who are into American muscle with high powered Camero's, Mustangs etc who use it. I dont think you can get a 'crap' semi or synthetic oil, all of them outperform the standards set by the engine manufacturer, I think clean oil is whats important not just 'expensive' oil.

Paul - Personally I'd advise against the 5-50.. Just personal experience on turbo engines, but I think a rating of 5w is way too low (too thin).. I wouldn't go below a 10w40 personally..

Still - let us know how you get on with 5w50 smile.gif

You should probably use a fully synthetic either 10/50 15/50 or the Castrol RS 10/60 if you can get it. High oil pressure is not a problem that these cars suffer. The design of the oil pump is not the same as that of a traditional (say Ford) pump and it will typically lead to low pressures at low speeds (low enough for a roller bearing crank, when we have plain bearings which need much higher pressure to maintain the oil film).

HI,

I used Castrol RS 10/60 in my NA, with no problems/rattles...kept reasonable oil pressure.Though I wouldn't believe the oil gauge on a Z anyway.

The best oil to use is Shell Helix, they have various grades, but go for the fully synthetic. Mobil 1 has a habit of finding leaks because its too thin.

Some jumped up mechanic at Halfords once told me that I should not be running Magnatec(for advanced modern engines) in my Saab T16S and that ALL turbo cars should use a fully synthetic...ARSE BASICALLY!

Saab used it for servicing, Toyota used it in my Supra and I never had any problems with it at all. Matty asked me just before Billing what to put in his and I said Magnatec, can't see how HIGH oil pressure would ever be a problem?!?!?!?! Don't worry about your oil pressure needle sitting 1mm off the white line at tickover either...my Supra used to do it and it's perfectly normal(at normal operating temp.)...check your handbooks if you got 'em and you'll see what I mean.

However, I think that SE use Castrol RS so I will see how I get on with it in my car when it comes out. If I don't like it, or start hearing strange noises I will flush the engine and go straight back to Magnatec.

IMHO of course!

Excessively high oil pressure can cause problems like main front/rear seals being pushed out for a start.. (Although we're probably talking real high here..)

well i ran 0/w40 elf oil, then changed to 5/40 castroll, stuff, but im not going with this synthetic stuff anymore, im going with 15/40 next up as i recon the ammount of time i drive really hard is not enough.

I have been running my cars on Fully Synthetic for a number of years, my old man swears by it in the 540BM and the SillycarGT4, he did 140K in a 535i all on synthetic, when he sold it it still didn't use any oil.

I have always been of the belief that if an oil has be accredited with the API level you can't go far wrong, what are we upto now SG isn't it?

I use Halfords F/S, cant remember the viscosity but it's a fraction of the cost of Mobil 1.

I'm prepared to be put straight if I'm totally wrong.

Tim

I'm using comma syner-g fully synthetic 5W-40.

Used this in my 205 for 60k with 8.2k rev limit, and still had perfect compression when I flogged it.
