Took the zed out for a blast with a colleague at lunch and it didn't feel up to its usual.... scariness.

Didn't have the Autometer boost gauge plumbed in, and I know it was boosting over stock but it definately wasn't giving me what it should do

V noticeable booting it at low speeds, seemed to take lots longer for the boost level to rise.

I've got a boost leak detector but haven't used it yet, I thought it could be a leak, or simply the hot weather - 26oC on the aircon gauge.

Cheers

Pete

Hot weather will affect the performance, particularly if you have stock intercoolers.

Alot.........if you are trying to get a tan. :D

Aswell as the temp, the air density comes into play too. Turbo'd cars will always perform better in cold weather. Maybe it was just one of those days - next time it will prob feel back up to speed.

Or is your mate just a fat bar steward?

LOL Cheers, that was what I'd hoped, will still check for any leaks though :)

Funny you should say that James - but its amazing how little effect a lot of weight has on the 300ZX. Any other car I've driven really struggles with 2 or 3 passengers.

Anyone ever towed using a zed lol?

hot air = less dense = less oxygen for combustion. It also means hotter engine bay which = [go to start above] ;)

So problem feeds on itself.

Nitrous oxide helps to cool engine and turbos due to latent heat absorbed when it goes from liquid to gas, but the extra power generated by more oxygen for combustion will produce more heat; so overall not sure if it provides a cooling effect

I just didn't realise the effect would be *that* noticeable except at home..err..sorry on a drag strip, same thing :D

I suppose upping the boost increases the effect of hotter air reducing performance.

I know exactly what you mean mate. Must be the torque.

being running mine at a steady 14.5 psi this morning in the cold misty air booted it as normal , boost controller warning facility started bleeping at me and i had hit 16psi  first time that has happened but again its the first time since the controller was fitted that its been out in really cold damp air

This afternoon back to it's normal 14.5psi

300Zx is a fairly heavy car- so passengers make less of a difference to lighter car. Looks like MASS is rearing it's ugly head once more ! :D

Yeah chuck your passengers out for quick acceleration lol.

Is mass ugly?

Go for a drive on a cool damp night. Car runs like a dream. Smooth responsive and quiet. So its not all good ;)

Stuart

ALSO.... Hot weather usually necessitates use of cooling climate control which stresses engine somewhat, causing greater load and more heat.;)

Thought you'd have your heaters on in summer nelson, after all hot air has less mass therefor the air in your zed will weigh less!!!;) :D :D

According to my calculations a given volume of air at 25C has only 97% the oxygen of air at 15C.

That means we're losing something like 9bhp damn it!!!!

I feel violated.

i think the calculation was 1bhp loss per a 1degree increase in temp.

I have never noticed a significant difference in performance however, nothing that would concern me,
