PLEASE EXCUSE MY MONOLOGUE

As a relatively new owner of a zed ( ok ok so I wrote the 1st one off ) I have often been told much bull from different garages – mainly Nissan.

……..and although a lot of advice on the forum has been appreciated a lot has been speculative or contradictory.

So for any newer members than me I would like to put into words my 1st experience with SE Nissan.

1st of all I phoned Pete to say I was in the area this afternoon and could I visit him just to have a chat about an insurance valuation and future works I have planned for the zed. He told me that he was on his own but if I didn’t mind him answering the phone then I was welcome.

Now I’m not the most technical of people but Pete spent over 2 hrs asking what I wanted out of my zed and what mods he could provide to achieve the results (and No it isn’t just max bhp)

I found Pete both knowledgeable and understanding of someone who like cars but really doesn’t know much about them. And on my first meeting I would wholly recommend them.

I know it is easy to bash people for poor service so I would like to praise someone for a good service. I know the proof of the pudding is in the eating ‘n’ all but I am hopeful that when my zed goes in on the 27th I will be impressed with the results.

For those that are interested I am having the following works carried out.

Overheating problem diagnosed & sorted

Paddle clutch replaced for standard (industrial strength)

Turbo Dynamics roller bearing stage II hybrids fitted

New Cam to bring the torque lower down the rpm range

Vernier pulleys fitted

Aluminium belt pully

Aluminium fly-wheel

Engine re-mapped.

Large bore exhaust downpipes

For those of you who don’t know warren’s old car this will be on top of 555 injectors, induction, emanage, HKS superdragger and blitz dump valves. The aim will hopefully be a 450-480 bhp zed with a decent pick up and good torque low/middle.

I’ll let you know how it she goes

:D

Regards,

Alex

judging by my recent experience of SE's it could be a long long time - i hear they're up to their eyeballs in it at the mo:rolleyes:

my impressions were that so long as you didnt need an engine re-build they were just 'quite busy' However if you do need an engine re-build then you're in for a megga wait.

Hence no forged pistons for me - maybe next year :D

u got bonnet vents ?

Surely you're joking? There is no way on earth that the stock clutch will hold anywhere near that power!!!!

HI Andy,

Pete seems to think his heavy duty clutch is man enough for the job and who am i to disgree. I have a paddle clutch at the moment and its a real bitch.

ROFL :D Thats what i need - an engine rebuild, but not an extra special super duper engine rebuild, just a plain simple engine build - preferably one that will last more than a fortnight :D

super duper engine or plain old engine re-build they all have to wait!!!!!!! :p

Don't get me wrong... I'm a big fan of SE - I've been going there years. Take a look at my car - it's getting toward being a mobile SE catalogue. But the reason I asked how long is because maybe part of being a satisfied SE customer is taking what they say about when they can do work, and how long it'll take, and mixing it up with several handfuls of salt. There's been other customers (people here too) that don't appreciate that and expect the job to start and finish on time... perfectly reasonable you might think. Well, absolutely no disrespect to SE (they're IMO _the_ place to get serious work done)... it doesn't always work like that. The work you're talking about needs engine out, heads off and probably an engine builder to sort the cams / solid lifters / whatever. He could be a big bottleneck.

I do hope, for your sake, it really goes well - you drop the car off one week (the week you should) and come back the next week to collect. But if it doesn't work out like that, try to hold off coming on here slating them for poor service. Be prepared for that 1 week job to turn into 1 month... you never know, if they only take a week it'll be a really nice surprise.

HI 51x,

my experience has been good so far - Pete has asked for the car on the Saturday and has told me to pick it up on the following Staurday so that will be what i'm expecting - I know there are unforseen delays and i will be completely honest with everyone - if everything is peachy apart from the car was late back, i'll tell everyone that everything is peachy apart from the car was late back.

mate, in all fairness - can you pls post up when you receive your car back - would be interesting to hear :)

I put myself on the engine rebuild list back at the start of May. I got allocated number 17. I was asked to call back at the start of August to check my position in the queue. When I phoned back in August I was now in position 16.. 3 months only to move 1 place up the queue. so I worked out that it would take me 4 years to get my car in their garage. However a week before then, Macca introduced me to Peter and we had a chat about the well being of my engine. He said that because it wasn't a complete engine rebuild (i.e. only new Inlet and Exhaust Valves) I would be able to get the work, in and out in a week. So After Billing I popped down to see Bob and Peter at SE to get it sorted.

After speaking to both Bob and Peter my car was booked in for Sat 30th Aug. They said that the car would be ready in 10 days due to the engine shop and workshop not having enough space at the same time.

So I phoned them the Wednesday before to double check that my car was still ok for 30th, but was told by Bob that one of the technicians had left last week and thrown them off a bit. He asked if I could bring it in the next week. I know about the delays and the play it by ear timescales that SE is well known for so I said I'll bring it in in two weeks time and you can have it for two weeks.

I'm not bothered if it will take a month to get it done, but as long as I know it's going to be a month before I take it in.

My 200SX has been in a garage for the last 6 months !!. One part is on an order holding the job up. I did complain without falling out with them, and they are doing all they can to get the car finished. :(

Alex

What are you doing the rebuild for? I remember Warren getting around 433 hp ( i think it was) and running HKS turbo's. Has something gone wrong?

it's been rebuilt once or twice since then.
