Went for a Drive in my old 300zx yesterday after it had a new engine put in it, what I noticed was the top of the engine was making a loud ticking noise. From what I can remember of driving it before the engine went bang! it was very smooth with no noise at all.

Any ideas on what the problem might be:confused:

The engine was second hand with 48 thousands miles. It's not my

car anymore, just trying to help the new owner out.

Well lets hope its just noisy injectors and not the lifters.

Sometimes a change to thicker oil cures it.

Good luck, without actually hearing it its tricky to say.

sounds like hydraulic tappets sticking. - change the oil

Cheers for the Suggestions. I'll ask him what oil he's

put in it.

Is it better to go for a fully Synthetic or a Semi.:)

Nissan reckoment semi synthetic for the 300ZX, but fully synthetic was not invented when the Z was made.

Semi will do, but full is better.

Most the time my z's engine sounds great but sometimes it ticks quite loudly, even when warm, what could this be?

Just stumps me a bit as most of the time it's fine.

Dont be silly! fully synthetic oil has been around for ages!! ;)

After not driving mine for a few weeks it did this and now after a few days it has cleared up and I put it down to not being run for a while and the tappets pumping up with oil !

See how it is after a few runs.

Olly.
