Things were going well but but something else has cropped up now. When I drive the car for about ten miles or more the Hicas warning light comes on and stays on!!!! Is this going to be pricey to fix?? Also, mainly when cold but sometimes when hot, if you stay at a constant speed then it's as if the car hiccups or coughs. Almost like a hesitation. It's fine when your accelerating, the problem only occurs at a constant speed. Also what should the car be idling at, when I got it it was around 600 revs but now its a 1000. The car is booked into SE Nissan beginning of September for my sticky gearshift and the rest of this stuff. The question is do I need to rob a bank beforehand to pay for whats wrong??? Any advice would be great. Cheers everyone.

Check the level of the PAS fluid, if it's low it should bring the light on. If it does need topping up check the hoses to and from the reservoir for leaks.

Likely you have a small leak.

Check the pipes at the rear where they start to

go over the axle.

A resourceful mechanic should be able cut away bad section

and fit in new bit with joints.

Nissan dealer will likely use std replacemant part = arm+leg!

the hesitation sounds like your egr unit

Idle and hesitation problems like that are usually the TPS...

On mine, if I take off the TPS and clean the contacts and stick it back on, it's fine for a while then starts playing up again - I guess my contacts are on the way out but not quite dead yet! I'm going to order a new one in any case.

TPS is on the side of the passenger-side throttle body (in front of the cylinders themselves).

Thanks a lot for all your ideas. I shall let you know what Se Nissan say. Either way when ut's sorted ill be a happy bunny again!!!

HICAS light is possibly your steering wheel off centre ;)

If the hicas control unit thinks you are constantly steering it sees this as an error and shuts off the system after a certain time. Check the steering wheel is straight when driving straight ahead.

Aha, the car has been fitted with an after market wheel and yes, it is steering a bit to the left when your in a straight line. Sounds promising, cheers.:)
