Hiya Anita, hope you're well, haven't seen you about for a while.

You said a while ago about trying to sort out club insurance and I was just wondering how this was going?

Don't mean to pour cold water on everyone's hard efforts but please don't expect people to work miracles with insurance brokers. There are simply not enough members to get a real deal from a broker. The ZClub tried hard enough and several people here have also worn their dialling finger to the bone - like Vijay, for instance.

You might find a broker who would be prepared to give a small percentage off their rates (just giving a bit of their margin away to attract the business), but 99 times out of a hundred you'll be able to get a better individual deal by ringing round.

Your individual choice will be between a 5% discount off a high price or 0% discount off a low price.

Nelson - you've got a mate in the biz: what's his opinion?

There is a way for a club to do good insurance deals but you need tens of thousands of members and act as your own broker. Which is what the MGOC does. And even they can't please everyone.

The other point is that there isn't a single insurance company which gives consistently low deals compared to others. I had a quote from Tesco which varied by 20% within 3 months.

The only way to get the best deal on insurance is to ring round everytime you renew. But it is unfair to expect a club (especially one as small as ours) to negotiate a better overall deal.

IMHO, asking others to spend ages trying to find / negotiate an insurance deal which actually means anything is a waste of their time. OTOH it should be fairly easy to find a broker which offers (say) 5% off their rates so it "looks good" as a reason for joining the club but almost no-one will find that the cheapest deal for them.

So be nice to the volunteers and give them a break if they can't deliver miracles like half price insurance!

Cheers - Gio
