Does anyone one why my screen shows the color brilliant red (eg Simon H's car) as a near black. I am running true color(32 bit) and 1024 x 768 resolution.

Vijay - What does the logo top left look like? The only thing I can think of is either your screen has a real low gamma setting (in which case everything will look really dark) or the red gun on your monitor is failing - in which case everything will be lacking red... What do the links look like on the left for example?

I'm color blind which don't help the logo looks sort of orange and the links look blue.

Ahh yeah that won't help!

Well the logo is an orangy-yellow Z surrounded by red... Looks like you don't see the red surround on your screen - I'd guess your red gun is dying..

How about the angry smiley I tagged this post with? Does it look black by any chance?

yep!!! it looks black.

If the red gun is failing is it a case of replace the monitor?

Vijay

Yep fraid so - with the price of monitors these days repair is usually as expensive as a new monitor - unless you've got a very expensive monitor of course.. What monitor is it?

I'd get a second opinion (from someone who can actually see your monitor smile.gif ) just in case it's your colour blindness - although, correct me if I'm wrong, but that usually means you can't tell the difference between affected colours, not that you can't tell them from black?

Just a thought - see if you can try your monitor on another PC.. If the red is still showing as black (or very dark) on the other PC then the problem is the monitor.. If it is fine, then it's your videocard..

Basically, it could be either;

Video card red line

Monitor RGB cable red line

Monitor red line/gun

The easiest way to troubleshoot these things is usually to swop components with friends and see what component the problem follows..

(BTW, depending on your monitor, the cable may be integral to the unit, or a plug in cable on the back of the monitor..)
