I'm off to look at an Import auto TT Zed this afternoon.. Apparently 29k on it (hmm!), and one small scuff on a quarter panel.. Hmmm.. Only £4995..

We shall see.. But it's a dealer, so at least I can take it for a spin

 

Oh and it's an Auto.. (waits for the boo's and hisses.. Lol)

JUST LOOK AROUND FOR GENERAL WEAR AND TEAR and anything that looks dodgy, and be prepared to spend a bit of mony on the car. i think there is a guide on the ttnet as to what to look out for when buying, i sugest you take a look, good luck, it will be worth it.

To be honest, it doesn't sound like what I'm looking for from what he said of the interior.. However it's worth a look - after all, gotta start somewhere!

 

To be honest, I'm a tad scared First time i've been scared of buying a car! Stuff like doing ECU diagnostics.. I don't fancy doing that on a car I'm looking at for some reason..

 

If I find a good one.. Perhaps I'll see if any of you lot live close enough to come have a gander.. Beers/bribe money in it for you of course...

OK Well I looked at it..

And all I can say is.. Erm!

 

First, it wasn't a dealer in the end.. This guy bought it off his car dealer mate 'Lee' who had 'too much stock'.. Hmmm

 

Second, dings in most panels - OK none big apart from one which had broken the laquer (not the paint).. And it's had a bit of a respray - boot spoiler & top of rear of drivers door..

Are the lower parts of the panels/bumpers all sprayed in a funny 'bumpy' finish??

 

Showing 29k on the clock.. Interior looks.. Well - shite! Drivers seat is 'ok' apart from a big scuff, passengers seat is somewhat destroyed, rear seats don't look too great, dash has a big rip in it, no stereo.. You get the picture..

 

With a bit of dentmaster attention, and a new interior (how much??) it'd be a decent enough car.. But the mileage, lack of history, and this dodgy "bought it off my mate because he had too much stock" story scare me so.. No way!

 

He said he'd go down to £4500 or thereabouts.. If the mileage is right, and the car isn't a ringer/stolen/clocked, then great deal.. I think? For a 92 J?

There's probably a million comments here, but I'd like to see some proof of mileage. It's not that I don't believe a car 9 years old can have only done 29K, it's that the interior gives a different story. What did the pedal rubbers and the steering wheel and the handbrake boot look like ? How dirty were the seatbelts and what age were they ? (There is a little white label with the date). Is it a series I or II, any 'toys', did you get the chassis number (can check the age) ? A photo of the vehicle ID plate can be useful as the codes tell ytou all sorts of stuff like colour, trim auto/manual, age, country etc etc.

 

From your description it sounds a bit like a 'stolen/recovered' to me.

 

Did you drive it ?

 

Also, (more) is the dealer really selling it through his mate as a private deal because he knows it's so crap that it's going to give him and his warranty company (if any) tons of trouble. Virtually to a man they're thieving bastards and this is an old trick.

Andy - yeah I think the interior was either telling me "Geoff Capes used the passenger seat on a regular basis and wrecked it" or "I've been to the moon and back.. twice"

The strange thing was the carpets were pristine, even in the boot.. But the seats and dash.. Oh my god..

 

No toys, beyond the standard (aircon, cruise, etc), not even a radio (just a gaping hole)..

 

Steeringwheel & gearlever looked OK..

The engine bay was a little tatty, but not neglected..

 

I think I'll run a mile from this one

 

The only things that attracted me to it were the mileage (if it's genuine) and the fact that it's a 92.. Didn't the 90 auto's have problems? That could just be US ones though..

 

Anyway I've emailed JayZ about the car he has for sale (59k on a 90G auto TT) which sounds somewhat nicer..

 

I might still drive this black one tomorrow, just so I have a baseline to work from..

Get someone to give you a drive in a known good one. I'd consider mine to be one of those and if you're not too far away then maybe we could arrange something.

Hmmm, now that's the tricky bit. This weekend is awkward, Saturday is out Sunday is unlikely. If you are able to get over near Hertford/Harlow then I might be able to fit in around that sometime.

How about one evening next week? I can make it round for probably 8-8.30 most evenings, or Monday - any time since I'm off work..

 

I mean I can make it to Essex pretty much anytime this weekend - but if you're busy, I wouldn't want to put you out

You want to watch out. It could've been raced from every traffic light in downtown Tokyo and never left the city limits with a sumo wrestler at the wheel with his mate alongside - that explains the low mileage and seats.

Yeah.. Well I've walked away from that one -plenty more to look at.. Even a couple of UK cars for sale within my price range (which would half my insurance!)..

 

Now if only the loan money had come through already!

Then all I gotta do is move my insurance over/cancel and take out new, and sell the Renault..
