Looks as though my turbos are gonna need to be re-done so I'm wondering on what other jobs people might advise being done while the engine's out?

Cheers

Off the top of my head - all the small 8mm water hoses that feed the plenum, throttle bodies and turbos.

If you have any reason to suspect it, the det sensor.

Bin the EGR guff.

Everything else is optional then, depending when it was last done (I'm thinking of cambelts etc there), and whether it really needs it (oil leaks, bottom end inspection), and whether you want to uprate stuff, although then you're talking major work..

No way!!

Cheers Aaron,

I've already got all the water hoses here to be done. Had a full Courtesy order done a few months back and I'm not looking to uprate anything.

Do you think the det sensor would be a good idea anyway?

Do you know if there's a write up any where on removing the EGR bits? Is there any disadvantage with doing this?

Thanks again for the advice.

Vijay

Replacement can be found here: http://www.ttzd.com/tech/egrtech.html Ofcourse u dont put a new one back on in removal ;)

Also a kit to block the holes left, should be pretty easy to make up your own though. http://www.300degree.com/hard_parts/egrkit/

If you're doing any of the work yourself let me know and i can pop up, i do have my uses (tea boy comes to mind ;) )

Cheers Rob :) :)

Hi Steve,

Yeah, I'm not too happy, just looked at the receipt and I've done 12k and they were done 2.5 years ago. I have decatted the car but I do not thrash the car around (really I don't).

The drivers side smokes badly on idle. I was stuck in traffic for 6 hours on the M25 on Friday and wasn't very happy with all the smoke so when a guy came and knocked on my window to tell me my car was on fire:eek:   ......................................

Oh well, Z ownership I suupose:rolleyes:

Doesn't sound too good to me Vijay.

Even driving the car very hard shouldn't see the turbo seals knackered in 12k miles.

I had a problem like this with my old Z but it settled down after a while. Maybe a bit of carbon built up a created a seal or something like that!

A couple of questions here!

1. Is your oil level effected by the burning?

2. Are you using mineral oil or fully synthetic & which viscosity?

Mineral oil can tend to burn off with lots of smoke whereas a fully synthetic, 10w60 for example doesn't and may sort your problem.

If you decide to get another pair of turbo's then there's a full list of things you can do but it depends on what you want from your car.

Speak to Dave at Progress Engineering who knows these engine very well, having done mine and Warrens and two other non forum rebuilds.

It would be best to go over and see him with your Z so he can test drive it and maybe even fix the problem?

Hi Steve,

I'm not sure how much oil it's using at the moment as it's had 2 oil changes in the last month. I was using Mobil 1 but changed it to Castrol RS 10/60 last week but it still smokes.

I am tempted to leave it for a while and see how it gets on......................
