searched and no one has asked, so here goes. Would it be at all feasible to have the t-bar on our zeds some way 'cut out' and then have a fabricated locking mechanism placed on the end of the t-bar, therefore locking it into place when required.

After cleaning the beast yesterday, this occured to me whilst cleaning out the drain channells in the top. Obviously this would severly weaken the structure of the car on an impact with the lid off, but surely with the lids on, more or less the same as before, but with the added bonus of having a completely removable roof in the summer.

So whatta y'all think, talking *****x or viable?????

anything is possible if you have the money to do it is the real answer. but you are right in thinking it would weaken the structure in a rollover. I cant see that it would be worth it to remove that 2inches of metal, also would give you another two seals to leak (as if there are not enough), you would lose your interior light, and the sensor fan which is built into it. Its an idea, but I dont think its a good idea.

Cheers

If done well, I think it would look nice. I've always thought that with the tbars off, all the black rubber seals look a bit unsightly - anyone agree? No? Ok then ;) And losing the tbar would remove a few rubber seals...

And take you one step closer to owning a Supra.... :D

You said it, gel.

Just so you know i've also an old Spitfire no not the plane the car and if you lean hard you can actually feel the windscreen moving forward slightly,i'd leave it remember it's been tested, crash tested and built to retain a certain amount of stress.

If you ***k about with it you don't really know what you're doing.

If you ever look at say a golf then look at the underneath of a golf convertable the sub frame is almost twice as big so to retain some rigiity.

In a nutshell i wouldn't...........................then again could look good!!!

Alex

Hmmmm, makes complete sense about the golf sub frame, adding that little bit of extra strength.

Had no intention of doing it tomorrow, just simply an idea, surely someone has done it before, possibly tt.net or the aussie boys, I always thought a towbar on a zed was a. impossible and b. fookin ugly if done, but there is a chappie on tt.net whose done a write up on how to fix one, and tows his jetski with it.

In fairness, after seeing those piccies last week some wierdo posted up of mangled zeds, it seems they dont fair too well in heavy smacks anyway. Gonna leave the dremel in the vanity case!!

And simmo303, gal, girl, girlie, but never gel:D :D :D
