Zed causing me grief!!!!!!!

 

Doesn't like starting when warm.

 

Fine when cold usually!! The normal 1/2 turn of the key, however if it doesn't catch on that first fire it's usually takes 5-6 seconds before it will start.

 

As for when its warm and after a run, come back to it 1/2 an hour later and it really struggles to fire. when it does start there's a real hesitation and drop of revs as soon as you depress the throttle, not enough to stall if your careful but damn annoying. 2 mins later and they'll be nothing wrong and no hesitation.

Theres no hesitation or missing after that initial press of the accelerator, and she pulls like normal.

yep I got that too, ask andyduff he'll tell ya (or maybe he wont, he had had a few stella's ;)).

I think it might be temp sensor related, had a problem where it would struggle to start no matter what the temperature, so i cleaned up the temp sensor connector and it would start fine when cold but takes a fair time to fire when hot.

Put a new one of those on and harness about six months ago but I'll check the connections properly as engine has just been out for new turbo's.

 

Perhaps somethings not gone back correctly.

Hi Andrew - have you checked your coolant? There's a good chance of an air pocket being trapped where the temp sensor is..

I've had hesitation due to this in the past.

Worth a try mate, do you mean just a case of undoing it until water seeps out and retightning?

Just make sure the rad's fully bled when you're filling it (bleed scew on the LHS at the top - fill on level ground). Might be worth running the aircon on full for a few minutes first as I believe a lot of air gets trapped in there...

Hmmmm could be a couple of things. One of them being what I just had with mine. The engine always used to take a few seconds of cranking to start it. Checked all electrics and everything was ok. It turned out to be fuel running back through the fuel pump and emptying the fuel rail once the engine was turned off - caused by faulty non-return valve (mounted on the fuel pump assembly). Replaced the pump assembly and car now starts perfectly every time. I did think it did it worse when warm too so worth trying a known good s/h pump assy ;) One way of testing this is as follows:

 

Turn on the ignition until you hear the fuel pump stop priming (around 2 seconds) but DO NOT start the car. Turn the key back off, wait a second and prime it again. Do this four or five times, maybe more you'll have to try. Once you've done this, try starting the car. If it starts pretty much instantly, its the non-return valve...

This is only going by my own Z but the drop in revs as you pressed the accelerator was DEF my temp sensor, well, the wiring to it in my case, the actual sensor was fine.
