I have a slight noise in 2nd and 4th gear. Its not major but there is a noticible difference between 2nd an 4th compares to 1st 3rd and 5th.

Its difficult to describe but its not a whining or metalic sound. The car performs all right and theres no vibration.2nd and 4th sound a little louder.

Any ideas....oops 90 manual TT

Hi Alfie,

Underneath the leather gear stick surround is a rubber boot. Make sure this is on correctly as when undone it lets noise come through. I had exactly the same problem and it turned out to be that.

:D ithink not.....little puppy...........lol :D

Cheers Vijay .........will check that out

Yep, as Vijay says this is definately your problem. The upper lip of the two section rubber boot has come away, there for when ever you are in 2nd 4th or reverse you will pull at it causing the boots to pull apart.

You will need to take your center consol off. but before you do, try driving in 2nd or 4th and pressing down on the area above the gear stick, if the noise disapears then this is the problem.

Center consol is easy to take off. Have a look here for instructions of how to remove it http://www.300zx-mods.co.uk/Transmission.htm

gosh Stu that looks complicated!

and I bet it won't solve the noise my gearbox makes (loads of transmission whine in all gears!)

Still, better that than an auto box eh!

Cheers for the info. Thats one problem solved...lol

Now about those oil leaks.............................lmao
