I would like to 'clock back' my jap 300.

Not for any illegal reason rather that I have converted the car to MPH and the miles are now clocking up as opposed to the KMs on top of the 81,000 KMS on it to start with.

Anyone else tried this?

it can be done but be carefull cause you dont want to mess with the little jobbie as when you want to sell it it will look damaged

If you look back through the posts Henri Le Hir posted a link to a hi web page for cleaning the odometer it also shows how it could be altered.

I had to do this on my Legend when I changed the clock, it was just too F**king easy, just like playing with lego! A 60s Smiths clock is much more difficult!

How was your speedo changed. Was the back face just changed or has it had any mechanical changes.

I ask this because, if just the speedo face has been changed the tripometre and total distance will still be in K's. Thus clocking it back will do no good.

Hi ya, oh it is oh so easy to change the mileage on the speedo, in fact I can only assume Nissan put about 1.5 seconds of thought in it.I have changed both the clocks on my Jap imports to Uk spec dashes, its the easiest way to covert everthing properly. However the Uk speedos needed changing to the equivalent mileage on the Jap clocks and after removing the unit and the small odometer it is a 5 min job to release the cross shaft at the bracket (bend open) now the figures will turn and then refix the cross shaft. What I do is take a couple of pics before and after with both units together then put them with your service history saves a lot of explaining when selling and shows your been honest.

Below is pic what the car looks like when speedo unit out.

Ps good time to change the back illumination to your choice of colours(see a previous post of mine)

I'm the first UK owner of my Z, before I picked the car up:

I had the speedo face changed to the UK spec 180MPH one, the speed jumper/delimiter fitted, the cruise control sorted and in the process the odometer started reading in miles, if not I'm getting crap fuel consumption!!
