I have an import that has been uk resident for about 2 years. I have 2 previous MOT certificates from the previous owner, but... it has no front or rear fog lights.

Now I've read a bit about various ways to fit fogs, but how can it be that this car has passed 2 uk MOT tests without them? - Is it a matter of interpretation or do I really have to get some fitted?

Strange one mate, i belive its the law that you must have a rear fog light?? but you dont need to have front ones and even if you do and there not working it wont afect the mot??

when they imported mine they did all the conversions before it left the shop ie, speedo, de-restricter, fog light etc...

JIM.

:)

So where did you get a rear fog fitted Jim?

Stuart - I guess you know what you're talkin about (!) but I can't say I'm sure I do.

Is this an accepted method for achaiving the required standards? I thought all cars had to have 2 brake light bulbs per side (??)

Please expand.

two brake lamps each side. The only reason the zed has is 'cos of the width of the lenses, look a bit silly with one in the middle.

But it is acceptable to use your inner brake lamps as fogs, as a number of people have done.......

;) ;)

Mine had got through 2 MOTs without rear fogs, then they told me no you must have a fog light and showed me the legislation.

There are a lot of places that are dodgy and couldn't care and other places were they love to piss you about.

I used one pair of reversing lights to convert to fogs.

Is there a "how to" somewhere - designed for idiots who can't work this stuff out for themselves??

My Z has had the inner brake lights coonverted to fog lights. But if ya just cut the wires and put fresh wiring to your fog switch the "lights" warning light on the interior display illuminates.Im pretty sure its coz the check system on the car is reading the incorrect resistance from the "cut out" bulbs.Im gonna rewire mina at weekend so that all the brakelights operate but the inner pair will work indendently on the switch. This aint ideal but i aint havin a cheap plastic blob hangin off my back bumper!!

Good luck!!

hi mate sorry for the late replie, I had mine done near you atually it was at mc clures performance (rochdale)

JIM

A wonderful example of Serendipity.....

MY Z just failed it's MOT bec the rear break lights were used as the rear fog light (as suggested above). The reason for it failing : they were white, not red. As with other guys here, it had passed 3 previous MOTs just fine....Will covering them in a red light gel be sufficient?

I would have thought anything like thet would be ok, as fog lights dont have to be reflective during the day. as long as they light up red when you switch them on

hope this helps mate, failing an m.o.t is depressing, dont do anything stupid mate theres always someone to talk to...........

LOL

To TTop,

what exactly did you get done at McLures and how much was it?

Do you have contact details for them?
