Hi guys...

Ive been to see an 89(G) Auto 75,000 miler - they are asking £9K for it - I have however bargained him down to £8K now...

I know it's old and fairly high miles, but it is absolutely mint condition.

About £4K spent on bodywork/wheels/tyres and 1.5K on engine(work done at the zed centre) 9 months ago

well serviced since '97 when it was imported.

I really want one that looks (and drives) this well, but I'm a little put off by the mileage/age of this car....

you guys know better than me - is this good value or way over-priced - if so, how much should I offer him?

...and if I go for it, am I going to have to fork out all the time for this old-timer???

Personally I would never spend that much for a car that old. I would go for something like Trey is selling and spend the difference on my own choice of wheels/bodykit.

Vijay

Hate to say but WELL over priced!!

Ditto what Vijay says.

Buy Trey's motor get the wrongs put right (1k I reckon??) and spend the other 4k on bits for the Z......

That's what I would IMHO.

Matty.

Sounds too much for sure.

As people have said, buy one for £5k or even £6k then you have a couple of grand left for repairs/mods of your OWN choice.

yep... I think you guys have confirmed what I was thinking... it's just that it was pretty much exactly what I want without having to do anything..!!!

So how much is it worth?

what should I offer him?

Has anyone here got one the same... then at least it'd be a fair price....!!!

Scoobs

You say £1.5k on engine.............do you have details? And you also said work done at the Z Center????

I'm not being rude but do you know your 300's? One that looks good cosmeticly is still worth peanuts if its not mechanicly sound.

It seems you've pretty much made up your mind.....just be careful bud......and air on the side of caution!

whats wrong with the z centre?

...and no I don't know my zed's thats why I'm buying one... and asking you guys for advice...!!!!

I just love the way they look and drive....

Nothing is wrong with the Z Centre at all............it is my favourite place! But they dont carry out engine work.

You NEED to take someone with you that knows their stuff. This is not an opinion, it is a FACT. Otherwise it could end in tears, expensive tears. This one maybe spot on, but you got to make sure.

Well I have an 89 G TT Manual.

Bought it for £4.7k last year and look below on how much I have spent on it so far.

If it's got everything you want then I'd offer £7.5k - £8k.

With that I'd want big 18" wheels with very good rubber on them and a full kit with untouched paint work.

I would check with Luke at the Z center as to what work has been carried out on it. I'm not sure if he can tell you or not but it's worth a go.

Also get this car fully checked out even if it cost you £300 to get it checked and find a problem. It may have gost you £k's in the long run.

From your description it sounds like a nice car. If you are 100%, get it checked and join in the fun :D.

All the best mate, Good luck !

OK whos near me that wants to take a look... ?

I'll offer some dosh as an incentive?

must admit Stuart,

you have got shit loads on yours....

hows about I makes you an offer instead?!!!!!!!!

Or buy mine, I might sell it, 1993 series 2, Fairlady TT auto, 17" split rims, exhaust, lowered slightly, UK clocks, 52000 miles, black,

not messed around with. very nice. and I mean very nice not the traders version of...

Errrm too much, hello, hello all?!?!!?!?!?!?!?

I spent £5k on one that I thought was as good as this, now it stands me at £11K with hardly any mods because of everything thats gone wrong!!

Wake up and smell the coffee guys, dont mean to be rude but when you have experienced what I have, which I know is rare but not unheard of, 9K for an almost minter is a bargain!!!

If its as good as you say it is then buy it!!! Save yourself time and hassle!

He hasn't said how good it is.......just how good it LOOKS.

YOU wake and smell the coffee.

I spent £5k on one that I thought was as good as this

...and therein lies the problem. What checks did you do before purchasing the car? Did you take anyone from the forum with you? Did you know what sort of market you were getting into when you bought a used, ageing sportscar?

What sort of problems have you had with yours?

You can spend £5K and get a lemon, a passably good but needs work one, or a "mint" one....it purely depends on how the car has been looked after to that point, what mods have been done to it and whether it's been beaten up in general life.

There are people on here who have spent over £15K for their Zeds. I bought my first one for £11,500. 4 years later, I bought a car that was 1 year newer for £6K and look - the turbos have gone because it is running stock turbos on 1 bar boost.

A silly thing to do, really. Yet do you hear me belittling the previous owner? No. It's just one of those things. Plus an excellent chance to uprate the turbos! :D :D

What REALLY does p1ss me off is that £5k gets you one regardless of what state it is in. And why? and no offence meant, because people are buying these when they don't know the first thing about them and getting ripped off. Thus pushing the price of 'the good ones' down.

Come on guys, do your research on these cars, if you dont know about them then take someone who does. That way the right people will benefit......now and in the long run.

Autos are good but the manuals are better in my opinion, hold out for a manual. Test drive both, and make up your own mind. £9k for a 1990 is a bit too much even if it is a minter.

Ray

Especially as there was an M reg for sale in Autotrader (?) for £13K last week! :D

9k you must be off your trolly lol (thats a joke), I paid 4k for mine 1990 with full kit, alloys, uprated suspension engine etc, just needed the front bumper tidying up and the wing mirrors replaced, o.k. my clutch has now gone but the total cost to me for a 400bhp fully kitted silver twin turbo manual is around 6k. It even has relatively low miles with some history and ofcourse the best colour lol silver !

For 9k I would want at least a K maybe L reg in sparkling condition and mechanically sound with history !

Have you thought that a Fairlady is an import and will be a lot more for insurance, a uk car will be cheaper to insure and you would probably get more history with it to boot !

If you have the money burning a hole then get the car checked out properly by a fellow zedder on here or at the very least get an AA, RAC check done as its still a heap of cash.

I would still try and lower the price though, maybe you could show them a few ads of Zeds that age and condition, Im sure you will find loads around the 5k mark !

Your choice though and rant over.

Olly.

Scoobydoo,

If the car is how you describe it and its mechanically sound then go for it - £8K ain't bad considering it takes a long time to have all these things fitted to a car which he already has (assuming if you had the option, you'd buy the same kit and wheels !).

Secondly, there are loads of guys on here who have spent 10s of thousands of pounds on a G plate Z.

Mileage isn't bad either 75k is nothing if the car has been well maintained....gearbox should be in good nick as most of them tend to go due to the heat but he has an uprated gearbox oil cooler which reflects that he looks after his car.

If I were you, I would have the car thorougly checked out by a Z enthusiast or give Andy Z a call if the car is in London area - he has a very good mechanic who can carry out a check for you at a very competitive price (and i mean very competitive) and if everything is fine - I would pay him £8K.

As far as the auto and manual comparison is concerned GrandadG, I don't think we should start another debate on this topic...

Autos are the better IMO as the best Z in the whole UK is an Auto. (Macca's Red Beast). :D ;) :p

And another piece of advice to you, Scoobydoo, is NOT to go through any importers and buy the car which is already here and you can get it checked out personally (independently)

Olly, you bought your car from a mate of mine in East London (Illford), didn't ya??? Very nice motor but not the best of colour though (Joke)

"Ammar"

Ammar.........I think I was going to buy some wheels from your mate in Ilford a while back. Was he also selling a silver Z with some kit bits on it? (sorry to go off topic for a sec)

He had a Red L reg Z and a Silver Kitted up Z. He sold the Silver one to Olly with the 18"Kahns and I think he was trying to sell his 18" (Lambo look alike) Split rims - which came off his Red Z to somebody on the forum.......is that the same person???

"Ammar"

Hi scoobydoo,

I own a 91 H reg (private plate) auto TT half engine replaced & over 4ks worth of engine work done when I got it 2 years ago.

Unmarked interior, unmarked paintwork! cost 5k.

Since ;

Auto box failed! Nov 02 £1400. 8 tyres £100 each! new rad Jan 03 £200 not incuding fitting!

All other reciepts like sevicing £1K or more! 18MPG!

These are expensive to keep & love like alot of these guys do.

I consider myself level headed, until I bought the Z!

I would want a newer shed for that sum!!!!!

You need indepedent expert advice.

Good luck! Arthur.
