OK my boss has given us these 2 questions, I'm too busy /can't be arsed, so anyone?

1. Two boys and one girl are sharing bottles of lemonade. One of the boys has three bottles of lemonade and the other boy has five bottles of lemonade. The girl does not have any bottles of lemonade. They shared the eight bottles of lemonade equally between the three of them. The next day, the girl gave the boys eight sweets as payment. What is the fairest way of dividing the sweets?

2. How can you make 100 using six 9’s only?

9*9 = 81

9+9 = 18

9/9 = 1

Add them all together

If they share the 8 bottles out, they get 2 2/3 of a bottle each.

Therefore, the boy with 3 bottles, gives the girl 1/3 of a bottle. The boy with 5 bottles gives the girl 2 1/3 bottles.

So, the fairest way to divide the sweets would be in proportion to the number of bottles of lemonade given.

So it should be 1 sweet to the boy with 3 bottles and 7 sweets to the boy with 5 bottles.

Dave if this is a trick question then it says that she gave the sweets to the boys as payment so it would be four each (just for the boys)

I'd still say the fairest way would be in proportion to the amount of lemonade each had given the girl. One boy gave the girl 1/3 of a bottle and the other gave her 2 1/3 bottles (or 7/3), so one would get one sweet and the other would get 7.

If it's a trick question, I'm still missing the trick! ;)

Dave the first part of the riddle is irelavant the actual question is

The next day, the girl gave the boys eight sweets as payment. What is the fairest way of dividing the sweets?

So if she gave the sweets to the boys as payment then the sweets are divided between the boys and not the girl

I know. That's what I said, isn't it?

1 sweet for one of the boys and 7 sweets for the other boy. :)

Dave now I have complete headf--k :D , trying to write a wedding speech and write things on the forum :(

dave me old mate - at it again are you?

only just noticed this one and seeing as how you were the only one who beleived me/backed me up on the quizshow thread i thought i'd drop in for a bit of moral support.

dave is correct (well i think so anyway)

there are a total of 8 bottles shared between 3 people -> each person gets 8/3 bottles (or 2 2/3)

the boy with 3 (or 9/3) bottles has 1/3 spare which he gives to the girl. the other boy has 5 (or 15/3) bottles so he has 7/3 spare which he gives to the girl.

the girl has received 8/3 bottles of lemonade and has 8 sweets to give back.

if the girl gives out 1 sweet for each 1/3 of a bottle she received then one boy gets 1 and the other gets 7.

of course, the little girl may have cottoned on to the fact that little boys will hapilly share their lemonade time and time again if they think they are eventually going to get some sweets out of it - if she's takes after most of the female population she probably held on to them a little longer until she gots all the lemonade she could out of them!!!

Yep. I can't help myself when it comes to this sort of thing, I'm afraid! :D

One of them takes all the sweets, the other f\/cks her up the arse for not having any lemonade yesterday.

Seriously, its 4 each. They both shared what they had equally, so should get equal the reward. They both gave away a third of their lemonade to the girl so are entitled to the same amount of sweets each.

Or you could say because boyA had to give away more- then he is entitled to more of the reward........depends how you look at it really.........

It does indeed. You can look at it the right way (i.e. 7-1), or the wrong way (i.e. 4-4)! :p :D

Yeah Roy!

Mike Metzner says if one of the little boys followed his Training Routine he could just kick the crap out of the other boy and nick all his sweets!!!!!!!!:D

THE ANSWER IS?

7 sweets to one boy and 1 to the other.

If there were 8 bottles and three children, each child drank 2 2/3 bottles each. So the boy who had 3 bottles gave away 1/3 of a bottle and the boy who had 8 bottles gave away 2 1/3 bottles. Therefore the second boy gave away 7 times as much as the first boy and should receive 7 sweets with 1 sweet going to the other boy.

So, 4 each...........LOL. :D

Percentage of what?

OK.........I work out the boy with 3 bottles gives her 1 bottle and the boy with 5 gives her 1 2/3 bottles (a 3rd each!!!).......how do you get to your working out?

I eagerly await your answer..........

Leaving one boy with 2 bottles and the other with 3 1/3 bottles? You're a genius! :p

I am aware that you're justing winding me up, but I'm happy to keep explaining the same thing over and over again to you! :D
