Hi!

 

I got code 53 from ECU diagnostic, but the car passed the "flash test" with engine running at 2000rpm for both sides. This give me 2 question:

1) May I take the "flash test" when the car hesitates/judders? (The car was running just fine when I did the test....of course!:) )

 

2) Can the passenger side O2 sensor be damaged even though the "flash test" was good?

Most onboard diagnostics rely on the ecu recieving a voltage that is of a certain specification.

 

outside of these figures & it flags a fault up as it must be high resistance or open/short circuit.

 

so if its only playing up intermittantly it will still regester a fault.

Have a look here and you'll see code 53 can mean other things - http://www.ttzd.com/tech/diagnostictech.html (at bottom of page). If I remember rightly I once had a code 53 and it was an intake leak.
