Quick question: Does anyone here have an aftermarket (or 3rd party) warranty on a Jap import? Looking for one but have been unlucky so far in my search.

Any comments greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Warrenty Wise and others but they are all the same!!

There's loads about but like all of them they have a get out clause so they don't have to pay out. If the part does fail i.e. break, crack, split, burst, explode, snap or splinter before it is due to fail then they pay out but if not it is considered wear and tear (i.e your gear box dies after 60k) and they will try and apply this to your car as often as possible.

You can't give the mechanic £20 to say the part failed like in the good old days they have to send the part to the warranty company as proof and it gets checked out, thats when they say wear and tear....and don't pay out!!

It would be nice to hear some good reports of on warrenty companies as I have only ever heard bad reports, I am one of those people that has given them bad reports.

Matty.

Most are cow pat mate!

Mine was OK with my heater matrix though, but unfortunately they don't cover engine rebuilds...LMAO! Don't know why I'm laughing!

I had a good experience with a company called North West Warranties, they let Nissan replace my Power steering pump for free.....

The thir party warranty I got with my car has already coughed up for the ignition amplifier unit (approx £300 + labour), no hassle at all plus they agreed to repair the gearbox when it overheated (approx £850 + labour) but I got that fixed under another warranty. The warranty covers the turbos and all major engine/drivetrain components but each claim is limited to a maximum £1000, although you can make as many claims as you like. The warranty would have cost £400 if I'd paid for it myself.

email me if you're interested in the company and I'll look up the details

cmon dylan,

lets have a schematic of your car, with you behind the wheel, zebedee coiled up under the wheel arches and Father Dougal blessing the whole thing.

I think i may be stoned.

Dylan, that wouldn't be WH Holdings, would it? That's who I'm with and so far../*frantically finding a piece of real wood in this place*/ they have repaired things as they said they would. My PTU also went south and that cost me only about £50. Mind you, I'd never go back to that garage, but that's another story... smile.gif

The company is Autocare and it's their Premier Mechanical Breakdown Insurance policy

Claims line: 0870 607 0332

Helpline: 0870 240 2441

The policy covers engine, gearbox, torque converter,

diff, clutch, wheel bearings, propshaft (for when that vibration starts), half shafts, CV joints, UV joints, fuel pumps, fuel injection system, cooling system, air conditioning compressor (if the additional premium was paid, which it was in my case), power steering, turbo (factory fitted only), front and rear suspension, brakes, ABS, electrical system, ECU

Each of the above sections gives a comprehensive list of the parts covered, eg for engine it says:

The rocker assembly, including hydraulic followers, inlet and exhaust valves (not burnt valves), springs and guides, cylinder head (not cracks and de-coking),

cylinder head gasket (except skim), push rods, camshafts

and followers, timing gears and chains (excluding tensioner),

oil pump, pistons and rings, cylinder bores, con rods,

gudgeon pins and bearings, crankshaft and bearings,

inlet manifold, flywheel and ring gear. Timing belts

are covered provided that the last due change of belt

has taken place as specified by the manufacturers

schedule (proof required)

The only downsides I can see are the maximum limit of

£1000 per claim, they only pay £25 per hour labour,

the vehicle is supposed to be serviced to the

manufacturers specifications (or every 6000 miles

or 6 months - whichever is sooner) and as it is a

breakdown insurance they only pay out if the vehicle

is undriveable/broken in some respect (so the vibrating

propshaft wouldn't be covered).

As it is a breakdown insurance they will also cough up

towards towing costs, replacement vehicle for up to

7 days, overnight accomodation etc.

They didn't ask me any questions and paid out straight

away when I made my claim.

Strange coincidence. Ajay, Dylan and me are all with WH Holdings and have all had successful claims for the PTU!

I've not had any trouble with them and I have the full cover which includes air con and turbos. I got the warranty when I bought the car. No complaints from me about this company.
