steering fault

the power steering sometimes does'nt work when driving

apart from the pump been faulty is there anything else i need to check

Featured Replies

Does it go light when driving quickly and heavy at parking speeds?

It might be the speed sensor on the gearbox thats faulty.

If the car doesn't know what speed you are doing it can't run the power steering correctly.

I think they are about £85 ish? Might be wrong.

This might also show as the speedo sometimes behaving erraticaly.

cheers for that.where is the speed sensor ?

Or if it's an import, it could be the speed convertor messing up the signals to the PAS controller - mine did that..

yep its an import so where do i look how much easy job?

Look under the hood for the dash instruments. 2 screws hold the hood on. Look for a small 'package' under there with wires coming out of one end. There should be a red, a black, and 2 others, maybe a few more. If you follow the 'other 2' you will see where they have been spliced into the speed signal wire. Cut them out, rejoin the wire and test the car.

Thats the worst explanation ever! Good luck lol
