Emmission control pipe on downpipe

Hi All

 

I'm about to replace my downpipes with some stainless ones (due to that little branch pipe leaking) and just wantde to know if it is an emmission control pipe of some sort, and if you just block it off or vent it to atmosphere after the new pipes are fitted? I'm guessing that's what the pipe is...

    I think you might mean the AIV's which can just be blocked off.
