Looks like I'm loosing some sort of fluid, oil and auto transmission levels apear OK. Not sure if it may be power steering fluid, last time I checked the level it was Ok but today noticed a puddle on the floor along with a small black plastic cap (similar to one off a tube of glue or so) and the level has gone down.

 

Does anyone know if there is a cap some where underneath which I'm hoping has just wound itself off and once replaced, all will be Ok :(

I really doubt that any car would have a tube like cap which taken off will cause fluid to come out.

 

Put a piece of paper under where the dip is coming from and find out what colour it is. If it is red it's steering fluid.

Well its not red but neither is the fluid in the cylinder. More of a clean oil colour.

stand corrected, it is red. Though the leaking fluid is an oily colour but bearing in mind its probably running down dirty pipes etc and the steering fluid is definately getting lower. More money I guess

Dont think so. I have a very slight leak of steering fluid at the back of my car and it comes out red.

 

Could it be clutch fluid?

If its at the back then you have a leak on the rear steering. Possibly perished piping.

The leaks at the front and its an NA auto. The power steering resevoir has gone down so will top up and wait and see, though no leaking overnight. :confused:

Park the car and get someone to look under the car as you move the steering from lock to lock, holding it for a few seconds at it's furthest points.

This is when there's most pressure in the system and you might be able to see it dripping (or in my case spraying out!)

problem found, single hose gone on the PS from the pump and guess how much £280 from nissan but the buggers wont give me the part number. The AA looked at it for free at Helfords.

Common hose to go (it's starting to on mine, and many others) - it's the main high pressure hose by the sound of it..

 

Take it off and take it to your local hydraulic specialist (Pirtek etc, there are loads around) and get a replica made up.. The Nissan part is extremely expensive, and a replica can be made far more cheaply and with higher pressure spec pipe..

 

It's a bit of a beyatch to get off the car, though..
