Absolute doddle!!! Right at the top of the door inner trim, where it meets the dashboard when you close the door is the best place for the tweeters. There's plenty of room behind the trim for the crossover too ;) I'll try and take a pic for you later if someone can't produce one before then ;)

Darren -

Welcome to the forum! I've not done this myself but I did investigate it a bit. The two most common points were to mount the tweeters inside the air-vents on the doors, OR to bite the bullet and cut holes into the tops of the door card.

There's a fair amount of space behind the doors to fasten crossovers - obviously you want to get the tweeters as high as you can, but there are two concerns:

1. Do you want a "stealth" install (no-one knows there're ill speakers in your car)

2. How "stock" do you want to keep your motor.

There're people on the forum that have actually done this (Vijay?), and there's a board called "Safe and Sound", though I think Bob has been AWOL for some time from there.

You're going to have to take the door cards off whatever you do, and this is probably the most tricky part of it. There's a good link on AndyP's http://www.300zx.org.uk site - in fact, here it is:

http://www.zhome.com/ZCMnL/PICS/stereo/stereo.html

...that deals with the door cards step by step and discusses the original Bose stereo that some Zeds had in 'em.

No doubt someone with more experience than me will give you some more advice any second now. Meantime, good luck, and let us know how you get on!

Cheers,

Russ.

thats a good link cheers - hadnt seen that one

want to keep it as invisible as pos really - interesting about the air vent though - wouldnt have thought of that!

yeah, though it sounds a bit weird to me! I mean, wouldn't you get interference from rushing air? Wouldn't the plastic box of the vent colour the sound? Not sure I trust it!

Russ.

I went for the Stealth install LMAO !!!!.

I bet you can't spot my crossovers....

I don't think my self an audio expert, but I installed some components in the doors a few years ago. Tweeters in the air vents, worked a treat. I guess the sound could be coloured but they sound so amazing compared to the original setup I have never really noticed.

The Green thing on the door is one of my crossovers.

The green thing in the din panel is my traction controls launch button.

The stereo surround and air vents were taken off to fit the stereo.

don't worry, it's back on now :D.

well managed to get the components in the doors on the weekend. decided to put the tweeters about an inch from the air vent. trouble was i did the drivers side first and forgot that the other side has a handle on it didnt i!!!! only just got away with it - there is a minimal gap between the handle and the tweeter and had to grind down part of the plastic because of the metal bit that sticks out for the handle screw!!!

but looks ok and sounds much better before

thanks again for your help
