Anyone know how to write/read the serial port of a PC from Visual Basic / VBA?

I'm trying to write some real time mapping software but need to be able to write to the serial port to do it.

Oh, what a project! Ideal for: "Get of my @rse, Mr Fiesta! If everyone else wasn't driving so slowly you wouldn't see me for dust!". Dunno if I could be bothered wiring up all those LEDs tho :rolleyes:

I dont know how well up you are with VB but there is comm port direct X control in VB as standard, I think it is on the standard VB control panel from memory. Just drag this to your form, then click on the control and change the RS232 settings, baud rate etc. For more in depth info on ithe control do a search at

use a topic such as "com port control" or "RS232"

 

Its not too bad to program, I have done a few RS232 interfaces with it...
