Finally got the new Z back home and settled in, alarm fitted etc..

If anyone remembers the story - the car is WildTurkey's old car, and the engine came out of my old grey import auto Z. The engine's had a strip, check and rebuild complete with;

24 new lifters

Nismo 555's

GT25 Hybrids

RPS Max clutch with Street disc and RPS billet flywheel

Thicker all-ally rad

Dual POP

Two GReddy 60mm EGTs

Still to go on is the AVC-R, TC, guages etc into the cabin, which I'll make a start on tomorrow (the stereo & alarm are now installed at least).

Building this car was a lot of hard work for Andy Duff and myself - roughly two straight weeks of long days getting the engine out and ready (one week) and put in and running (the second week).

Few teething troubles to sort out, and the bodywork isn't quite as immaculate as I'd hoped (needs a new tailgate too, as it's rotten under the fantastic sponge spoiler), but aside from that, and a minor overheating problem yesterday (the car always cools better when the fan is actually turning, I find..), it's going OK. 7psi at the moment so not earthshattering performance, but still a lot faster than my old car was at 9psi, and the turbos are nicely into positive boost at about 1800rpm :)

Anyway - here's a couple of pics, since I just finished polishing it (though I haven't done the engine bay yet, so that's a bit grubby);

Excellent Az!! :)

No need to be Duffers mate now you got your car back. :D:D

I was asking DaveW if he knew anything of where you went. You just disappeared for a while.

Good one

Awesome dude.

Well done, all the hard work has paid of.

Hows the rad?

Are you in the business of making some rads up then Waz?

I reckon you could shift a few uprated ones on SXOC if the price is good. I even have a spare S13 rad I could send you as a pattern LOL.

nice one aaron, new car looks good. All that cash you put into it is showing :D, but just what exactly is that big pipe running across the front of the engine?

Nice one Aaron!

Glad to see it is finally completed!

Hope to be in a similiar situation myself, within the next year or so LOL!

BTW the way when you bypassed the throttle body, where are the water feeds you bypassed from and to? I presume they orignate and go back into the block?

The rad's working nicely m8 - although the locating pegs were about 1" too close together, so it has to sit without the rubber mounts at the bottom.. Still, it's held in nicely with the upper & lower rad hoses, and the top mounts anyway. Easier to bleed than the stock rad, too!

That's what's commonly known as a bodge.. I mean, er, modification :) Basically it's our take on the so called 'Low speed driveability mod' that JWT make for their dual intakes. Because the MAF is only measuring idle air on one side, and because the Z only takes it's idle air from the passenger side, at idle it either reads high or low (depending on whether the MAF is on the drivers or passengers intake). To fix that, JWT take a second air feed from the drivers side recirc valve, through a restrictor, and tee it into the passenger side idle air feed. What we did was make up a turbo outlet pipe for the drivers side with a second outlet (exactly the same as the outlet on the stock passenger side) and tee that into the idle feed on the passenger side. That means the idle air is now 50/50 taken from both sides of the intake, and the MAF is back to metering exactly 50% of the drawn air - which is what the ECU expects. Personally, I think this system is actually better than the JWT setup, although the pipework is less hidden, it doesn't need any restrictor size-juggling to get the metered amounts right.

It's an arse to explain how we did it, but a piece of cake to show you on an engine (so long as you can see the back of it..).

Basically, we modified the water output of the passenger side turbo, because the stock water feed goes toward the front of the engine (toward the pass. side TB), so that it points straight back up the back of the engine. The feeds & returns are then taken directly off the heater feed & return pipes at the back of the engine. It's quite obvious when you're looking at the heater pipes, at least after a couple of minutes - just be careful to note which short lenghts of pipe are part of the heater pipes, and which (there's two, from memory) are just welded to the back of the heater pipes, but don't actually connect to them.. You'll see what I mean when you look at them.. I can always take a trip over to yours sometime and show you if you like.

And Jezz - stop hijacking my thread :P But while we're at it - Waz's radiators are very nice indeed. Rad cap is a bl**dy tight fit mind, and the pegs aren't quite right on the Z one as I say, but they're very nicely made, all shiny and .. well, shiny.. (Vinz, you'd love it ;) :D)

BTW Warren - that bodykit looks gorgeous on your car m8.

Ok, this post is long enough :D To anyone else I didn't mention by name - thanks for the positive vibes :)

Great stuff. :D

Nice to see you back in a Zed, Az. :D
