Hi all,

Just thought i would warn ya about the above,!! I have just bought a lovely 91 Z 32 TT. acquired on Monday the 16th,drove home hitting double the legal speed limit!! like ya do!!

Following morning at 8.30am,fired new car up to go to work and hey, ping, pong, crash!! cam belt twanged 12ish teeth and clattered 10 valves!!! actually snapped 6,this was at no more than 1100 rpm in 1st gear!!

Luckily i am able to do the work myself!!This is still gonna cost about £600 after calling all my favours in at the local parts supplier!! ha ha!!

Just letting ya all know!! a word of warnin,if ya belts gettin close for renewal,DO IT! ASAP... by the way this Z32 has only covered 94k[about 56,000 miles] but is obviouslt 11yr old or so and is an import!!Upon stripping engine found this cambelt to be the original factory belt!! Not all jap owners are consiensious!!

Thats life eh!!

Maybe you got some of the letters in your name mixed up?

But sad to hear about your car...its bad news when any of that stuff happens...hope you get it sorted to your liking!

Are you not meant to change it every 50,000 miles or every 3 years which ever comes first.

Nissan origianally said every 60,000 miles but changed it a few years later.

Thanx for ya reply!!

I know exactly the timing belt intervals for the vehicle, but short of pullin the thing apart on the previous owners drive i couldnt avoid the cam belt going!! The message was posted as a precautionary tale that was all,not for anybody to point facts and imply that im a wa**er!![for drivin too quick or not spottin cambelt failure,i aint sure].

Again was just a post to say what will happen if ya dont change ya belt and costs incurred when it does go twang!!!

Hope i aint offnded anybody this time with MY car goin faulty!!

Kind regards

G Williams

Apologies - it was insinuated for driving a bit fast...

Unfortunately no one can know when the cambelt will go...I know people who's cambelt has gone only 1/3 into their life.

As I said, I hope you get it sorted quick and hassle free and to your liking...maybe the time to get some headwork (porting etc) whilst its off?

Regards

Sh1t, thats bad luck!

......and thanx for the tale! SE supplied and fitted a new engine for me a couple of years ago, they said the engine came from a rolled customer's car that they had serviced from new. So I asked them the cam belt history and true to SE customer service form.....they couldn't tell me! or couldn't be arsed to look, who knows? I have bought the kit from Courtesy anyway just to make sure.

No probs fella,s,

Gonna have some headwork done, just polished i reckon!!Think i will get it as i want it eventually!! really like the car,but just a bit sour faced at the moment with it!1 as ya would expect!!

I just put the bit about goin quick in the original post to emphasise how bad it could have been really, wasnt a statement of bravado!! ha ha...If the belt would have gone at them kinda speeds i would still be scrapin the molten bits of steel off the bulkhead as we speak!!

But this is life aint it gents, these things are merely a trifle!! albeit an expensive one!!So to conclude,im gettin the heads back tuesday night/weds mornin,i reckon theres about 12 hrs in gettin the thing up and runnin again!!

After roadtest i will report back!! hopefully!! ha ha!And by the way has anyone one heard of these ZEE exhausts i have on this car? there stainless and have 6" tailpipes! anyone have any info??

Many thanks,

G Williams

Sorry to hear your troubles.

But maxing it and putting full strain on an unknown cambelt

is really asking for it.

The fact that it went the next day is probably beside the point

- you did the belt damage doing 140 mph!

I personally would go nowhere near those speeds until I had

the car checked over - engine, drivetrain ,wheels you know all

the the things that could shorten your life if they went wrong

at speed.

For all you know the car might not have gone over 70 mph

in latter years if ever!

Nothing wrong with those speeds - just make sure the car

is safe!!!

G Williams, What colour is your Z?

I have seen a few Zs round manchester.

Yep i agree!! was fool hardy doin big speed as soon as i bought it,but disagree on the belt damage theory unfortunately!!The belt broke due to age and material deteriation, speed aint a factor. And in my defence, the character i bought the vehicle off did say that the car had been in middlehurst Motorsport in St Helens and had a crank seal and belt changed around xmas 02!!

I am an ex nismo and ralliart engineer, now based in manchester doin mainly motorsport and performance car repairs and have changed literally thousands of cambelts!! about 90% break on start up or initial tickover, when the belt is jerked into life. The cam belt has a relatively easy job when the car is up and running, unless ya runnin an anti lag system on ya turbo's,they get a bit stressed then!!Irrelevent on a road car really! aint that many runnin about with them on anyway!!

Anyway,in reply to the Q, My car is a deep burgundy metallic with 18" gold speedlines on it,also has a high rear spoiler and theese massive exhausts as mentioned before!!.Believe the colour is import only!Aint sure how true that is,perhaps you fellas can tell me!

You ever been round Haydock Island in your Z? I think I have seen you on that roundabout.

Hehe, I misread that as "three massive exhausts"

That'd be ... err... unique! :D
