Some of you were waiting for my emission results to help decide about removing your CATS or not. Well, I passed, just... and that includes the JWT chip that's dumping extra fual into the system.

 

Not bad, I think the limit was something like 3.5 for CO on a 1991 car. Mine was 0.1 just under whatever the limit is. So if you've got a post 1992 car you will probably not pass this test! Beware!

 

 

 

Looks like when I eventually get my test pipes I'm gonna have to replace them with the cats in time for the MOT, or find a "sympathetic" MOT station ;O)

Which pipes have you got Jez, I may have some trouble with having the one precat. Was thinking of getting the Z Centre/Silvia type front pipes. Wonder if Johnathan deals in them?

Had my cats removed last september, MOT in february the mechanic had to rev the engine to get it to register any emissions on the probe, and then it passed easy. The cars a 1990 TT with staright through exhaust.

 

Mine is a 1990 example with the main cats gutted. It was MOT'ed a few months back. Failed on startup because engine was cold but passed when the engine was hot. It passed the overall MOT so I guess they must use the results from a hot running engine? Take the car in 5 minutes before the actual test if anyone is worried. If the car fails when the engine is hot (even with gutted cats) then the car is not running correctly in my opinion.

I seam to remember something like 0.3 is the max CO after 1992...? Anyone else remember...
