Hi, both pipes from the back boxes have gone, tried to patch up but the damage is to great.

I have been quoted £452.00 stanless steel all in ( POWER FLOW).

Is it a good price, is Power Flow any good, do prefere the mongoose but thats an extra £100 with no fitting and money is a little short as we have a new addition to the family.

Should I hold on alittle longer and go for the mongoose.

Can any one point me the right way to go.

Need to do something soon as MOT is due next month.

Tony :(

Hard on to fathem.

Mongoose are not the bees knees of exhaust. They are popular because they look good, sound good, give reasonable performance and are a good price.

This power flow may not be inferior to Mongoose, it fact it maybe better, its cheaper because it is not as popular. The Mongoose on mine cost £400 fitted 3 years ago, probably before the popularity went up.

Stuart

I went down the same path.

Chose the Mongoose and happy as Larry!!

Nice sound and good looks yet retaining that twin either side look.

It's all down to preferences but wouldn't cost much for an exhaust fitter to replace. I tried to do mine myself but had large grief removing the bolts attached to the cats (seriously stuck, rusted and rounded (after I had finished with them) and admitted defeat and drove round the corner to my nearest garage with the mongoose system stuck out the back of the Zed where it took them half an hour to finish off.

Amazing what you can do when your Zed is 6ft off the ground instead of 10 inches up a pair of ramps.

:D :D

Me too, they are fantastic value for money;)

Got to Predator in Welwyn Garden City & they'll do you custom stainless backboxes for

I've got a Powerflow on mine an am really pleased with it. It sounds REALLY nice. Where abouts are you in London? if you wanna check it out, you're welcome.

Yeah, Mongoose is very good for the money. A good point is that it is of FULL stainless steel construction.

Some of the more expensive Japanese made systems only have stainless back-boxes and the rest is mild steeel- so will eventually rust away.

Dave

Hi ava300

I've a powerflow system, fitted last Friday and I'm more than pleased. I needed a complete system from manifolds on and had the cats removed at the same time. The whole system is stainless steel and the welding is A1. They also offered a choice of boxes and pipes etc at NexC. Southampton I used, the guys a bit of a perfectionist.

PowerFlow

Their website has a power test on and one to one, come out above mongoose though this may just be there interpretation.

Very happy with the Mongoose on mine, but as you're not that far away there is a place called Hayward and Scott (in Essex) who make up exhausts to order, so you can choose all the bits you want. Fully stainless etc. Sorry don't have the number right now, but I believe MJP and numerous other companies use their services.

Just had a look at that and the comparison is on a Saxo. Obviously they will want to portray their products in the best light etc, and not taking anything away from that, but just because they made a great exhaust for a Saxo, doesn't mean the one for a Z will be equally impressive. Facts and Data etc ...

Ive got a mongoose coming, fingers crossed i get it fitted for the essex meet :)

Andies exhaust sounds lovely (he needs to polish it though ;)) I didn't realise it was a mongoose.

I have a powerflow on mine, Although there was a little confusion to which tail pipes I wanted. They put 3" quads on rather than 4" quads, they gave me a large discount for it.

I love the sound of my zorst and the best thing about powerflow is not only can you specify the tail pipes you want, you can also specify the pipe diameter (I went for 3" pipe, I think mongoose is only 2.5"). And you can also specify what sound you want i.e. how loud. I only kept the back boxes in as I like a nice meaty roar !!!.

I'm very happy with the service and haven't had any problems with it at all. Also comes with lifetime guarantee, which I think also applies to mongoose.

If you want a custom zorst that is different from most other Z's out there go with powerflow.

Don't go for powerflow!!!!It's cheap crap!Yea it sound nice and is easy to weld but thats cos its not quality stainless! If in doubt do a magnet test on a mongoose exhaust and the magnet will fall off, do it on a powerflow and i'll stick like glue.I've had powerflow backboxes for about 1.5 years and they're starting to rust. I'm now saving for mongoose boxes.

Also the 'lifetime' warranty doesn't include corrosion/blowing. If its proper stainless then it shouldnt corrode should it? Why cover for it then?

What!!!!!

Just tried the magnet test on the pipes and boxes... DOESN'T STICK ANYWHERE and as far as the guarantee, mine says it covers all S/S components so as the boxes are S/S then it must also cover them.

You should really be asking what grade of stainless steel is being used in the manufacture of these exhausts. All stainless will corrode given the right conditions not an expert but generally 304 grade is the cheapest least resistant to corrosion, with 316 and 318 dearer but more corrosion resistant.

I stand corrected, sorry. Tried a better magnet and it sticks.... now i'm concerened

I have a full stainless system fitted to me Z, i have the scrab decat front section, then the cat back mongoose system, well pleased wiv it.

Stu 'SWM1' has just had a powerflow fitted, and instead of putting the fat quad 4 inchs tails they welded 3 inch ones on, but when we compared them to mine which are 2.5 quads, they are the same size, so i think those guys have funny rulers at there garages.

I had my system fitted by Luke at the Z centre, and was well pleased wiv it, for the cash, i chatted to him for a while about these powerflow systems, and he told me to really avoid them because they are not designed with the backpressure in mind, which tell me if im wrong is quite important wiv the Z, and he had seen a Z with a stainless system on it from powerflow, but the centre boxes he reckoned looked ad if they was off a ford bloody escort.??????????????..............

I reckon stick wiv exhausts that have been tried and tested prior to there fitting to your car.

Good luck

Paul

LMAO !!!!!.

Thanks for the warning Stuey, but I'm still very happy with mine.

If it starts to rust then I'm gonna take it back. If they don't change it I'm gonna shuve it up their ar$e until they do. I'm not worried :D

No problems. Just trying to warn everyone before they make a mistake. I've tried to get the guys that put my back boxes on to replace them, but they keep pointing to the small print on the warranty and telling me i'll have to buy new. I've tried to argue, but to no avail, so now i just f**k on him every time i see him in his scooby doo! It makes me feel a bit better anyway cos he claims its faster than a R33 GTR!

Mongoose claim to use 306 grade stainless.

Powerflow use a combination of 409/430/304 grades.

306 is the best grade although there may be specific properties of the other grades that make them suitable for exhausts. Generally though the 306 has the best corrosion resistance.

You pays your money and takes your choice.

The following also expains a bit, I agree that mongoose say they use 306 which is better.

I originally approached mongoose but they advised me they would rather not fit the SS to my NA SWB as the pipe overhang would look daft and they would not cut the piping shorter to correct this!!!

I would like to thank you all, interesting points were made and I'll take everything into consideration before making my final decision which way to go.

Thanks again

Tony

:)

Well - with Powerflow apart from points already made, the fitting depends on the fitter! So take care and look for a place with good feed back. Extreme in Harlow fit them. But I've heard negative stuff about the Powerflow agents in St Albans. So check it out.

Jaypcs ot whatever his name (no offence), mentioned Predator in Welwyn Garden City which is highly recommended, but depending on what you get fitted it may be alot more than Powerflow.

I'm lined up to have one fitted at Predator, but I've had to postpone it.

Geoff.
