Hi guy's

Ever since nissan dealership changed the oil in my auto box, it's been playing up, but only intermittently!!!.

So i had the oil changed again and it still plays up, any ideas.

If i thrash the car and slow down it'll sometimes pull off in second and now and again i lose reverse. Then comes back after a while it also seems to be heat related, ie:more likely to play up if its a hot day

But if i keep the revs down it works fine!!!

HELP!!

Cheers Dave.

Hi Dave,

Not Nissan mentioned three times in one day, boy, some rep. they're getting!

Anyway, not sure what is causing the problems that you've described but what seems to be a sensible move with the Auto's is having a cooler fitted. SE do them, and it's definitely on my list of mods. My gearbox used to get so hot I could feel it through the carpet on the transmission tunnel.

AndyP endorses this fixture, he's got one on his TT and says that it decreases the overall running temperature of the box quite a bit.

What fluid have Nissan put in your car, hope it's the right type??? Only other thing I can think of is if the level is ever so slightly low, this can cause problems. Run the car, and check the fluid with the car running at tickover...sniff the fluid aswell! Chargrilled smell means problems, also the fluid should be red in colour, not brown or any other!

All auto boxes get hot - it's the way the oil is thrashed around the torque converter.

The oil cooler makes a significant difference to the running temp of the oil, but it still gets damn hot !

The problem with my box was that something broke up inside, not sure what, clogged the oil filter/gauze and consequenly no oil pressue & no drive. After a while of standing it would work briefly again then pack up - really infuriating.

Doesn't sound like your problem is quite the same though.
