If this is all a conzult is - http://300zx-twinturbo.com/conzult/product.jpg , then why the heck is it about $450 ?? I mean i could easily make that crappy wire, it's less than a floppy's worth of software which i expect is only very simple. But i don't know what that little black box is, which mean i can't make 1 i have to buy it!

Surely it should be like a $50 product.

Sorry, just i got all excited about ordering one then i realised the extortionate price!

It does the same job as a Nissan consultant. If you go to Nissan as ask them to check your car, they will charge you £50 just to test it. If you want to buy one, you will be lucky to get one under £1,000

I think the £250 price tag is a little high but they did spend months and months developing it. Personally I think if they brought the price down to £100 or so, they would easily sell twice as many.

But then that wouldn't be fair on the rest of us who bought it for £265 would it ;)

but thats marketing strategy, first you cream the top layer who will pay the most then the next and so on. Look at telly's and PCs. Its nothing to do with fair.

Actually it looks so damn wicked i think i'm going to invest in one anyway. Something about plugging my laptop into my car turns me on ;)

Anyone near me got one i can play with? I'm off on holiday in a couple of weeks and i have a feeling i'll be needing all the money i can get for the moment!

There is a demo one you can use. It doesnt actually do anything because its not plugged into anything. But can load it and see all the great things it can do. Like change timing, tell you the value of every sensor, chech injector pulses, error codes.

Run diags on your Hicas, Air Con, Auto Box, Mode I and II diags one your ECU and engine. It is really really impressive.

Having used one of these for several months on a weekly/ daily basis I can from my point of view (workshop use) not say enough in favour of this little device, as to whether a zed owner would get full use of it is less unclear, however if you value the importantance of keeping your zed happy then no contest.

However it does take some time to fully understand what you are viewing and how to get the best out of the system, there are occassions where the ConZult will appear to tell you one thing which clearly cannot be correct and confusion can result form this,

(Timing is one in particular!) however with practise it becomes much clearer what is going on, I for one can vouch for it 100% and if you look at the hardware there is a little more than a lead and a couple of connectors, the black box interface is the heart of the system and yes the component cost is most likely reasonably low but as said elswhere it is the months of development that determines the final cost.

The little black box interprets the serial data the ECU sends from the diag port but I think there are also some hadshaking signals sent back.

There is an alternative to the conZult being developed at the minute, so may be worth holding off for that to come out before making a decision. There's also that Zemulator thing.
