Is this gauge prone to failure? I picked up my Zed yesterday from the docks, engine sounded sweet as f*ck, oil level perfect,no sign of white smoke from the exhaust and yet the oil pressure gauge showed zero

Featured Replies

Its the oil pressure sender which causes the problem.

£80 for a new sender from Nissan. Most people get an after market gauge for half that price.

Hi Makis,

I thought the Oil guage was quite good on our cars. It is normally the boost guage that people upgrade, and if additional guages wanted then it would be Water & Oil Temp.

I assume the wiring, and sender, are okay and giving readings?

I will watch out for your car in the locale (fellow KT post code).

Geoff

Thanks Stuart.

Will any aftermarket gauge do or do i have to look for a specific one?

Geoff, glad to hear there's a BBS member from this area. All the Zed owners i've seen so far in the area, are not in the BBS, and don't seem to eager to join

I'm leaving abroad on Sunday though for a month, so we should arrange a mini-meet in July-August :D

PS. lee-man lives also in the same area :)

No there are loads of different ones. You can get mechnical or electrical ones both have advantages and disadvantages.

The thread for the sender is NTP 1/8 or something, and most gauges come with the sender with that thread.

You can put it on with the stock on so they both should work or instead off. I took the old sender off so the dash ones doesnt read anything.

MAC is also right about the water gauge too. I have an aftermarket water gauge and while the stock gauge remains in the middle, the after market one reads temperatures between 60 and 95º. At 100ºC you should pull over and cool the car down, but at 95ºC my stock gauge wasnt even showing the engine to be a little warmer.

Makis

If I was you I would put some dials in that DIN space you have open at the moment if you have no plans for it. A nice Oil Pressure, Water Temperature and Volt or Oil Temp for you.

He he, my lazy-ass is an auto ;)

Yeah, its the sender that gets clogged up, clean it or replace it and in time it will clog up again!
