I need to get new tyres this week , stock size, does anyone have any opinions on what make and where to buy?

I dont wanna end up with ones that are too soft like yokohama and only get 8000 out of them.

Also, how much should a tyre place charge to fit 'em?

Thanks..

Toyo proxiess are great and cheap on the net. Also if you are a member of Costco they do Michelin sport for about £100 a corner fitted.

I recently had to have new rear tyres on my standard rims. I have gone for a make I have not previously heard of called "nexen". They have a really good directional tread but I have only just got them so do not know about their wear rate yet. I had to replace the tyres I got at the beginning of december as they were almost bold after only 3500miles. The shocking thing is that they were michellin pilot sport. There is not a problem with the setup as they wore perfectly even across the whole of the tread. The tyres have been sent back to michelin to investigate due to the rate they have worn. This maybe just an isolated incident but at £150 a tyre I would be dubious about going for michellins again on the z.

I have also been told that pirelli's are quite soft so may not be a good option either.

hope this helps!!!!

Where you find £100?

When I asked for 245/45/16 from Costco they wanted £197 each!

Bridgestone S02 or S03 are superb!

I am trying Goodrich at the moment and they are very good but they still have to wear in I think. They still squeel a little.

Stuart

Eagle F1's were on my old Z and they were very grippy both wet and dry (had traction control too, so that helped!) and the tread looked smart too......

I have pilots on the new Z and they are sound so far, both wet and dry........look good too....

:D

Matty.

Another Bridgestone S03 fan here. :)

I had Avon ZZR(?) tyres on the back of the Zed when I got it. Apparently they had only done 2000 miles when the interior of the OSR wheel blew, which was nice. The inside wall of the tyre was very bulgy and the hole was a good cm in diameter.

Not a make I would personally trust now.

What is the treadwear number for these Nexen things ? As a comparision S-03's are 220, Proxies are 260. Larger number is better in terms of longevity, but not grip !

I gotta go with Matty on the F1's.

I have Eagle F1's G02's on the front which are superglued to the road and Eagle F1's G03's on the rear which are just amazing.

I was was used to doing 180 sliders when the road was too narrow and a 3 point turn is needed, but with these I wouldn't even try it, they grip far too much (besides they are brand new and I don't fancy them only lasting 4,000 miles). I would also agree with Metty in that the tread patteren is not only effective but it does loook really nice.

I won't be changing from the F1's personally. Even on my new 18's

I can get these for about £90+VAT for 225/50 ZR16 (g03's)

You really are a mind of info Andy, your posts never cease to inform me, I didn't know about how the treadware rating worked.

But what I would say is that the treadwear is rated as 280 on the GY Eagle F1s GS D3 that I have all round on mine and I must say they are a seriously sticky tyre, I think Stuart might agree with me there.

I pay £89.50 (inc VAT) but + carrage + fitting a corner for 225/50/ZR16 from http://www.xpediatyre.co.uk

Tim

I'm sure they are very sticky but as is often said it is very seldom that anyone on the road should get near the performance limits of a tyre. Proxies are considered very grippy, Bridgestones are too, but just a bit softer. I have seen Yokos with 180 and I'm sure track tyres are much lower in many cases.

Anyway, take a look at this very interesting page :-

http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/testing/UTQG/

I'm a Bridgestone man thru and thru (hav even got Potenzas on my everyday V6 Rover!!) but have just fitted some lovely Proxes on the 300. Not as good aas the old S02 (no longer made) bt better than the S03 according to my tyre man! We shall see!

I pretend to work, they pretend to pay me!

Much thanks for the info guys, think ill go for eagle F1's.

Whats the diff between G02's and G03's and GS D3 tho?

Is expediatyre the best place to get 'em?

How much should i pay to have them fitted? , never supplied my own before.

I have had these, basically if you want to drive anywhere near the limit don't get them, they are not at all good, but to potter around in and do doughnuts (if you want) perfect.

I am sure Fred Flintstone had softer compound tyres than the Khumos I had.

I had them, they where hard as nails and will last you many many miles, but I though they where dangerous. They kicked out while I was going round a corner at 20mph in the damp. I wasnt going fast as other cars where going past me at the time.

G03's are the same as GSD3's sorry for the confusion.

The tread pattern between the 2's and 3's are slightly different.

but basically the same tyre.

3's look sexier though LOL :D

Thnx stuart, i phoned a garage today who said he'd supply and fit these for £99.80 per tyre inc balance and vat (225/50x16).

Thats cheaper than buyin online by the time u pay carriage and fitting!
