Who said turbos get hot? There is no proof that they do. We all hear about the glowing with the heat.

See this Porsche 911 turbo doesn't seem to suffer from turbos glowing with the heat

bit like my arse after a curry :D

does anyone else notice loads of heat eminating from underneath there zed when they open the door at all, mines like a bbq, i also think that with the design of the zed there must be very little airflow thru the engine bay to aid underbonnet cooling, it has very tight panel lines and very little openings in the front, extremely tight engine bay etc. is that why all my rubber hoses and wiring feel like 200 year old desert baked bones.

Yeah I get that too.

Open the door and you feel a very warm draft coming from under the car.

Yeah I'm going to get peter to take an angle grinder to my bonnet next week.

The heat under my bonnet is just stupid.

Oh, I don't know.......on a long journey I wrap a jacket potato in some foil and throw it in the engine bay.

....and hey presto.....when you arrive at your destination you have a healthy snack waiting for you under the bonnet.

Z32 turbo:

hotturbos.gif

So don't just turn off the engine after a blast fgs. Spend several minutes driving gently to let it all cool down nicely. (or turbo timer - but even so, drive gently in the last few minutes before you stop).

Ref in full is here

 Gio

On really hot days I usually pull the bonnet up when I get home to help the engine cool down. Nieghbours prolly think I'm having problems ;)

I always find that as i pull into garage i put bonnet up and leave it like that, makes a good difference to.Ie if i open bonent temp never goes above 90 if i leave bonnet down temp usually climbs to around 95 +

I can't beleive you still have one, just think of the mass;) take it off and you will kill 2 birds with one stone:D;)

Why not just replace the bonnet with mesh? Heat is allowed to escape and the mass reduction alone should be worth it. ;)

Yeah - I'd have the largest bonnet vents going :D

How do u measure engine bay temp ?

Yeah I think there is some sense in this

After blasting the turbos, which is virtually every run,

I leave the engine running for about 5 mins, and as the cars usually in the garage I lift the bonnet and leave it for a while

Dont half heat the garage up a treat - I find you dont need any

heating in the garage in the winter! Now if I could find a way

of getting the car into the lounge I could switch the heating off altogether! No wonder the electrics get so brittle

Just base it of my stepping motor water temp senser.

it keeps recording temp after i have switched of.

its not 100% accyrate idea of under bonnet temps but its is in principle the same thing.

If I drove round with the bonnet up would it help heat dispersion at all?

LOL, srrae using my second hand pictures from SN

:D

Oh are you sure thats a z32 turbo?

Is that one of the v8 /4cylinder zx's then ;)

:D
