Got a bit of a problem which i'm worried about. Got a jap 91 N/A Auto which i repaired the heater matrix on and have been driving. For some stupid reason i let my mate drive me home from a club as i was drunk and it was wet. going round a bend it slid out and one side knocked into a kerb. Front and back wheel on the passenger side knocked into the kerb.

After that the tracking was obviously out so it didn't drive straight but this was the only problem at the time.

Driving back a week later along the m25 and every time i went over a slight bump it felt like the back wheel swung me left or right slightly as if i had the 4 wheel steering but i dont. Since then its got worse and worse. Got the tracking done now so it drives straight again but it still feels to dangerous to drive over about 70 as every bump or manhole in the road knocks you either left or right. Cant pinpoint what it is. bushes seem to look ok and tracking is ok. had all the wheels rebalanced aswell.

Any ideas???

Rear shocks sound like they are gone.

 

From what I remember, Jap Z ones are cheaper than the UK ones I think.

 

 

You could have bent the stut slightly when hitting the kirb and broke a seal, or it could just be coinsidence that the shocks went at the same time as your meeting with the Kirb

Rear Shox is the likeley culpret, having said that on my mot the guy pointed out a little play in one of the rear wheels, its the top bush directly behind the wheel.

 

Didnt notice anything till he pointed it out, now i can somehow feel it!:confused:

Most likely bent the hicas arm and now you have incorect tracking at the rear.

Will he have a HICAS arm with a NA which has not HICAS?

i don't have a hicas arm do i? i do have a bar at the bottom going to the diff area which would be the hicas arm but this looks straight on both sides. I had a 4 wheel tracking done so they adjusted and checked both front and back so the tracking must be fine i presume. however the wheel is no longer straight as they've obviusly been lazy so i shall take it back tomorrow.

One thing i forgot to mention was the centre prop shaft bearing is going as when i accelerate hard it knocks. what i'm thinking is maybe this has got worse and when i hit a bump the propshaft is going slightly off centre and making one rear wheel slow down slightly thus making the car turn? Any ideas?

Anyway i can check this to be sure?

Gulp! that will teach me to read threads more carefully before posting a reply!

 

Sorry A1Syd forget the hicas bent arm bit, but take a look at the lower wishbone for any damage as this could effectively give the same effect if bent/damaged and be the cause of the tracking / handling problem, also as others said the shocks have a great deal of control and it is possible one was damaged, if you remove the wheel and let the suspension hang get a level and push the assembly up and down and watch for smooth travel, try this with the wheel on also and look at the angle of the wheel and compare it to the other side , hope some of that makes sense?

I didnt read it properly either, unless it was a hard knock i doubt youd of knackered a shock, i reckon you must of bent or broke something, if you jack it up and give the wheel a wiggle you should find some movement, if not it might be a case of compaing it with the good side.

well. after driving it last night i found a nice bump which i went over repeatedly and as soon as the back wheel on either side go down the bump the car jumps to a side. So its not just the one side. both rear wheels have this effect. I have lifted the wheel and checked for play but they are really solid. So no i'm thinking it must be either shocks or this propshaft thing.

Gotta be the rear toe in! Can't see it being anything else if it happens with both sides....

Yes I tend to agree with Duffman, check your wheel bearings for play
