Just wondering if anyone else has ever had a gearbox that whines slightly in 2nd & 4th, but no other gear ??

It's also a little baulky going into 2nd, but only when very cold.

Thought an oil change might help.

John, this is a fairly common thing..

The bushing under the shifter boot is worn or it's not on correctly.

Eric,

I've seen instructions on TT.net on how to change the bushing, but is it as easy as it seams?

Thanks

Vijay

It is pretty easy..

Just take your time...the removal of the plastic pieces/covers around the shifter (without breaking it) can be annoying and might be the hardest part ;-)

i have exactly the same problem, any links to how this is fixed

Cheers Eric, but does the changing the bushine help with the whining noise, or just the change ??

John, replacing the bushing should cure the whining noise in 2nd & 4th.

It's never a bad idea to change the oil in the gearbox (unless you put in the wrong oil wink.gif)

but..changing oil doesn't always cure a balky gearbox though

so what oil should go in the gearbox?

so what oil should go in the gearbox?

good quality GL-4 (75W/90) around 3.0liter +/- 0.1

I can recommend Redline MT-90

if your gearbox is really shitty use Redline MTL, but the gearbox will eventually dissolve in time (MTL is rather aggressive)

try this, i was driving today in 4th gear and as i heard the whine i put my hand on the gearnob (oh yeah baby yeah) and put pressure, the noise went away.

so then its the bearing
