Wheel Spacers

Hi all,

I currently have some lovely Volk Racing wheels which sadly snagged the brake calipers when the previous owner of the car had them fitted, so they now have spacers to solve the problem, but as a result are held on with the slightest amount of thread imaginable.

I'm therefore wondering if I can get longer studs fitted on the hubs. This may be only a partial solution, though, as the spacers are sufficiently thick to fully separate the wheel from the hub and so the wheel has no purchase on the hub other than the studs at present. I wonder if there is some kind of a kit I can use that extends the hub as well? Any one have any ideas?

I'd be sad to have to bin the wheels, cause although they need refurbishing these are the real things and they don't look too bad either.

Just dismantled the hub assembly on my car with the Volk alloys and was very impressed with what I found (not withstanding it's probably better to have wheels fitted without adapters/spacers). It really looks and feels like a piece of quality engineering certainly a long way off of a simple metal spacer and longer hub bolts. I couldn't see any markings on the spacer/adapter but I suspect it is a Volk item, guess you could try a Volk wheel stockist for them.

See photos.

A few points about the mounting,

1. The hub has an 'expander ring' fitted to push fit with the spacer bore

2.The spacer itself is a very light alloy material.

3.The wheel mounting bolts are inserted into the rear of the spacer and have very shallow heads with flats to prevent rotation.

4.The wheel nuts are hex heads with a long machined portion to fit the wheel bores.

I had some made by syko racing . Worked out cheaper than ordering the nismo ones. Another alternative is to use ford ones but you'll need new nuts because the thread pitch is different.

Johnny at GPS put me on to someone he uses for this but my wheels have very strange nuts which were 6 week delivery from BBS so didn't go that route. The ford ones are dirt cheap and fit perfectly apparently.

Wow, three very useful replies, many thanks - particularly to Peter for dismantling his car, just to show me the fittings!!!!

:D :D :D :D :D

I will follow up all three options asap.

Thanks again guys.
