I've just had a new prop shaft installed on my short wheel base 300ZX Convertible and I'm experiencing high levels of vibration at high speed. The mechanic I used cant find a solution so I'm looking for a local specialist or some advice that will solve my problem.

I live in the West London/Buckinghamshire area.

Please help

Hi suzanne,

Check out website http://www.300zx.co.uk/cgi-bin/manual.cgi

online service manual.

Under propshaft page 6, I think it says if yo u have vibration at high speed inspect propshaft runout (ie not quite straight)

If runout exceeds specs disconnect prop at final drive and rotate it 90' or 60' depending on which shaft applies to your car and check runout again repeat above operation when companion flange is rotated 180' or 120' and 270' or 180' respectively. securely connect prop at the point where the smallest runout of the three measurements occurs. RUNOUT LIMIT 0.6mm (0.024in).

Hi Suzanne,I got a soft top too,not sure on your problem though sorry.

Rod.

Ricard from R & D Motors in Harrow has looked after my 4 Zs very well.

His number is 020-8427-8890

Hi Guys

I have forwarded all the info to my mechanic, but will phone R D motors in Harrow if he still can fix her.

Are there any other female 300ZX drivers out there (convertible or targa top) ? I have to admit I have not seen another girl driving one!! Plus I do give the boy' racers a run for their money at the lights and of course I win every time!!

What meeting or events do the 300ZX owning elite (which we all are as the car is so brilliant) recommend?

HI Suzanne, Welcome to the forum

There are few of us,

OI!!!

Ajay, Wendy, Suzy say hello!! and me

there are some other women who drive their partners zeds too....so we are growing ..slowly

I saw a woman driving a red zed the other day.. locally I was utterley stunned

look in events and meets for zed get togethers... i think most of the regulars are going to Billing (end of July)

I'm sure there are plenty of zed meets b4 then, we all tend to travel a bit anyway(any excuse to drive the zed)

send me an email Suzanne

Eliza. There is a guy near East Grinstead (Not far from Gatwick) that does nothing but prop shafts. He has been doing these for a very long time and I've had a few prop shafts repaired by him (including my current ZX one) over the years with no problems.

He is Mike Barrat. 01342 322623 or 07762 384164. His website is http://www.autopropuk.co.uk.

Hi Suzzanne, i have a metro with a softtop but im not sure what the problem on your car is :D

Probably propshaft runout, but could be somethign as simple as a wheel weight having fell of ect.

Welcome Suzzane - yeah my wife drives my Zed (ours?) and floors it alot.

When some guys see girl driving such cars they take the mick and think they can knock the piss out of them - only to find my blondie knocks the s**t out of them!!!

Hello everyone

Just wanted to say thanks for all the info and help regarding my high speed vibrating propshaft problem.

I've had a new gear box amount fitted and had one of my wheels replaced (which was buckled). I'm glad to say that the vibration has redcued significantly. It still vibrates slightly between 95 and 100 but I can live with that for the moment.

I'll have to safe up my pennies again but she's worth it.

Suzanne:)

Hi Suzanne,

I think the we have our own special separate little section just for the convertible Z owners!

Mark

Suzanne,

Mac's already mentioned it but I thought it worth saying again especially if the car's temporarily drained the bank balance (I think we all know that feeling ;)) :

It might be worth having your wheels rebalanced somewhere else. I had the same problem several months back; a vibration that felt pretty centralised that I convinced myself was propshaft, even before I had the wheels balanced at a local Central Tyre, which did nothing to help. On a visit to my parents back up north I mentioned the problem and my dad suggested a friend of his who ran a local garage. He gave it a run, balanced the wheels on a better machine, and hey presto, no more vibration... :)

Good luck
